The city is home to 32 tennis venues with 138 tennis courts across its many clubs, parks and community centres, where players can practice their skills. Sheffield’s park courts in particularly have reached record levels of popularity with many of these courts readily available to book through LTA Rally, either as pay to play or even free to book courts.
Want to take on other players in local competitions? Sheffield’s Local Tennis League might be just the thing for you and will give you a chance to meet and compete with players in the local area.
Sheffield also has a number of disability tennis programmes, which are available through the LTA Open Court programme, at clubs such as Brentwood LTC. In 2019 alone, Sheffield’s wide range of disability sessions saw nearly 1,300 monthly attendances.

For kids aged 4-18, the LTA Youth programme is a fantastic introduction to the sport and helps develop key skills both on and off the court. With 6 different stages, starting with Youth Start, the programme develops with the player, keeping it fresh and exciting the whole way through. Sheffield hosts a number of tennis tournaments and competitions throughout the year so that players of all ages and abilities can go head-to-head and compete out on court. For example, the Sheffield & District Senior tournament in June each year is the largest event based at the Hallamshire club, but also taking part at other clubs in the city.

The LTA is also continuing to lead the way in providing opportunities for underserved communities to get involved in tennis through its SERVES programme. SERVES is a leading sport for development programme that takes tennis to communities and people who might not otherwise have the chance to play. Sheffield runs a SERVES session at the Stocksbridge Leisure Centre and is looking to progress throughout more sites across the city.
