Boulter wins title in France

British No.1 Katie Boulter won her first title of the season at the WTA 125 Trophée Clarins Paris this weekend in a breakthrough week for the 28-year-old.

Boulter – who only won her first tour match on clay in Madrid last month – captured her first title on the surface thanks to a comeback victory against Chloe Paquet 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

During an impressive week in France, Boulter also claimed standout wins against Erika Andreeva, Daria Saville, Elsa Jacquemot and eighth seed Varvara Gracheva.

The title win sees Boulter retain her status as the top-ranked British women’s singles player, moving up two spots to world No.38.

The victory will serve as a huge boost for the Lexus GB Billie Jean King Cup star ahead of only her second main draw appearance at Roland Garros this year.

British doubles No.1 Olivia Nicholls also enjoyed an impressive week at the Lagardere Paris Racing Club – finishing runner-up alongside Tereza Mihalikova.

Nicholls and Mihalikova led by a set and a break in the final against second seeds Irina Khromacheva and Fanny Stollar but eventually lost 4-6, 7-6(5), 10-5.

Brits star at Italian Open

Jack Draper led the British stars at the Italian Open with a run to another ATP Masters 1000 quarter-final, eventually losing out to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 6-4.

Emma Raducanu made the fourth round of the women’s singles where she lost to world No.3 and tournament runner-up Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-2.

The British singles success carried over to the ITF World Tennis Tour last week as well, with Ryan Peniston, Ella McDonald and Alice Gillan all capturing titles.

Former HSBC Championships quarter-finalist Peniston won his second singles title of the season at the M25 Tbilisi, adding to his silverware from Loule only a few weeks ago.

Peniston closed out the title with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 victory over American Martin Damm – the ninth singles trophy of his career.

19-year-old McDonald continues to make strong progress on the ITF Tour this season, adding winning her third career singles title at the W15 Monastir with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kateryna Lazarenko in the final.

McDonald has now won a combined 14 singles and doubles titles in just over two season on the pro tour.

Gillan won staged a brilliant comeback win against Spain’s Alba Rey Garcia in the W15 Monzon final 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 to seal her third career singles title.

En route to the final, Gillan had to beat fellow Briton Ranah Stoiber in the semi-final, who also finished runner-up in the women’s doubles.
