Japan Open 2026: Preview, draw, schedule & how to watch

The Japan Open, the third WT1000 event of the year on the ITF’s UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour, returns this month for its 42nd edition with six Brits in action in Iizuka City.

When is the Japan Open 2026?

The Japan Open takes place from Tuesday 21 April through to Sunday 26 April.

Where is the Japan Open 2026 being held?

The Japan Open will take place at the Iizuka Sports Resort Tennis Courts in Iizuka City, Fukuoka, on the same site as the tournament’s traditional home previously known as Chikuho Heights.

Which British players be competing at the Japan Open 2026?

British players will contest each of the main draw singles and doubles events at the Japan Open 2026, with Alfie Hewett, Gordon Reid, Andrew Penney, Ben Bartram all contesting the men’s events, Cornelia Oosthuizen challenging for honours in the women’s events and Greg Slade contesting the quad draws.

British No.2 Reid is still currently the only previous British winner of the men’s singles title in Iizuka after back-to-back victories in 2017 and 2018, while Hewett was runner-up in the men’s singles and doubles (with Reid) in 2024.

British No.3 Bartram and British No.4 Penney return to Iizuka for the second successive year, having both attained career-best men’s singles rankings in the last month – Bartram peaking at No.15 and Penney breaking into the top 20 for the first time in his career.

Meanwhile, British women’s No.2 Oosthuizen makes her Japan Open debut this year and will aim to build on results achieved alongside Bartram, Penney, Reid and Slade at tournaments in South Korea in the last few weeks.

Slade is set to contest his second successive Japan Open and will aim to become the latest Brit to earn quad singles or quad doubles titles In Iizuka, 10 years on from Andy Lapthorne and Jamie Burdekin lifting the Japan Open quad doubles title.
