Alfie Hewett, Gordon Reid, Lucy Shuker and Cornelia Oosthuizen, Britain’s top two ranked men’s and women’s players, will each feature in the four matches scheduled on Court 1 on Tuesday’s first day of wheelchair tennis at the Lexus British Open Roehampton.
World No.2 and reigning champion Hewett will conclude the day’s play on Court 1 as he opens his title defence against Stephane Houdet of France, as soon as Shuker has played reigning Wimbledon champion Wang Ziying of China in a rematch of their quarter-final contest that went to three sets at last year’s British Open.
Another British-Chinese contest will open proceedings on the main show court, with live stream viewers starting the day with Oosthuizen’s first round women’s singles meeting with Zhu Zhenzhen.
British No.2 Reid follows Oosthuizen on to Court 1, as Saturday’s Lexus Eastbourne Open Roehampton men’s singles champion faces world No.3 and 2004 Wimbledon finalist Martin de la Puente of Spain in what should be one of the matches of the day.
Elsewhere, Ben Bartram, Lexus Eastbourne Open runner-up, faces a rematch of his Eastbourne quarter-final against Dutchman Maarten Ter Hofte. Bartram has moved up one place in this week’s new world rankings to No.16 following his excellent performances in Eastbourne.
Reid and Bartram are drawn in the opposite half of the men’s draw to second seed Hewett
Also moving up in this week’s new rankings is Greg Slade, the new British No.1 quad singles player. Up one place to No.8 in the latest rankings, Slade will face Justin Michel of France.
Andy Lapthorne, British No.1 before over 13 years before this week, will play fellow Brit Oliver Cox in his opening match and is drawn in the opposite half of the quad singles draw to Slade.
