Penney's first experience of wheelchair tennis came in May 2019 when he played at the Portsmouth Tennis Centre. He instantly fell in love with the sport and enjoyed being able to train regularly, providing him with something that he looked forward to doing and ultimately being the driving force behind wanting to make it his career.
Tennis Career
Highlights:
- Finished runner-up to fellow Brit Dahnon Ward at the Abingdon Futures tennis tournament, after being narrowly defeated 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-3
- Won the Genoa Open singles title - beating Nicolas Charrier 5-7, 6-1, 6-4
- Lifted his first title of the year at the 27e Tournoi Bulle Indoors event after defeating Josef Riegler 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-2
