World Team Cup 2026: Lexus Great Britain squads announced for Orlando

The squad will represent Great Britain across the men’s, women’s, and quad draws contested annually at World Tennis’s flagship wheelchair tennis event, which is the wheelchair equivalent of the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup.

Great Britain is one of five nations, along with Chile, Colombia, the Netherlands and USA, to contest all three competitions this year.  

Great Britain’s long history of success in the World Team Cup has included four men’s titles since 2015, all of which have come from teams that have included world No.2 Alfie Hewett and world No.5 Gordon Reid, who won their 25^th Grand Slam doubles title together last month at Wimbledon. 

British No.3 Ben Bartram joined Hewett and Reid in the teams that lifted the World Team Cup in 2023 and 2024, and the 21-year-old is celebrating a new career-high men’s singles ranking of No.14 this week after reaching the final of last week’s Austrian Open.

Hewett, who made his senior debut at the 2015 World Team Cup, when Great Britain won the first of their four men’s titles to date, said: “I’m excited to be playing at the World Team Cup again. It’s a great honour to play for your country with other teammates in your corner against other top nations.

"It’s a very exciting year for us with the 50th year of wheelchair tennis, and we only want to put on a good show of our sport in Orlando with the Paralympic Games not far away. (I’m) looking forward to seeing what this event brings."

Seven-time World Team Cup medallist and British No.1 Lucy Shuker will contest her 16th World Team Cup in the women’s event in Orlando. Joining Shuker in this year’s team will be Cornelia Oosthuizen and Abbie Breakwell, completing a trio who have consistently reached the women’s semi-finals together since 2021, when Breakwell, now 23, made her senior Great Britain debut.

Shuker, who is set to represent Great Britain for the final time in World Team Cup competition in Orlando after announcing last month that 20026 will be her final year of competing,  said: “It’s always been an honour to represent my country, whether it’s at a Paralympic Games or World Team Cup. It’s the only time in the year we get to wear GB kit and support each other as a country. I’ve had some amazing World Team Cup moments, winning seven medals over the years with some fantastic teammates, and I’m looking forward to going into this World Team Cup with Luke as our women’s captain for the first time and to going out there and doing our best.”

Paris 2024 Paralympic quad doubles silver medallists Andy Lapthorne and Greg Slade again headline the team selected for the World Team Cup quad event alongside 19-year-old Oliver Cox, who made his senior Great Britain debut and became LTA Colour Holder No.325 at the 2024 World Team Cup, 12 months on from being a member of the Great Britain junior team that lifted the title.

Like Hewett, Lapthorne also made his senior World Team Cup debut as part of a victorious Great Britain World Team Cup quad team in 2009. Now selected for his 12^th World Team Cup, he said: "I'm really excited to be playing World Team Cup again this year, especially over in the States, where I love playing. To represent our country is the greatest honour and we will give everything."

Speaking ahead of this year’s World Team Cup, Erik Koers, Team Leader and Head of the LTA’s Wheelchair Performance Pathway, said: “We’re delighted to be able to select such a strong Lexus GB World Team Cup team featuring our top three world-ranked men’s, women and quad players.

"Our junior players have already had their first-ever standalone World Team Cup, with the Great Britain boys’ team claiming gold, and our men’s, women’s and quad teams will be as best prepared as possible to challenge for the medals in Orlando. After two medals and a top four finish last year we are expecting another strong Great Britain performance again.”
