Day six: GB men and quad teams bring home bronze at World Team Cup play-offs
The Lexus GB men's and quad teams have secured bronze at the World Team Cup after securing wins over France and Australia respectively. The two bronze medals add to the World Team Cup title won by the junior team on Saturday in Turkey.

Men’s: Bartram and Ward lead Brits to bronze
Ben Bartram and Dahnon Ward, both members of last year’s gold medal-winning team, guided the Brits to a 2-0 victory over France in this year's bronze medal play-off.
With the bronze medal on the line, Ward showed little signs of nerves as he got proceedings off to the perfect start with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Geoffrey Jasiak.
It was then over to Bartram who faced a tough challenge in Gaetan Menguy. After a tight opening set, the 19-year-old Brit went on to wrap up yet another victory for his country - winning 7-5, 6-3 to claim bronze for the British men in Turkey.
Quad: Paralympic medallists Lapthorne and Slade secure doubles win for GB
The Lexus GB quad team were faced with a tough challenger in the form of Australia but eventually came through in a 2-1 victory to hand Great Britain their third medal of the week.
Greg Slade put in a confident performance over world No.29 Finn Broadbent to clinch a vital 6-4, 6-0 victory and place the Brits just one match win away from a medal. However, after narrowly losing out in an opening set tie-break, Andy Lapthorne sturggled to find a way back against Benjamin Wenzel - eventually being beaten 7-6(4), 6-4 to see Australia level up the scoreboard.
Paris 2024 Paralympic quad doubles silver medallists Lapthorne and Slade then teamed up to secure doubles delight against Broadbent and Wenzel, 6-4, 6-1 and secure the bronze medal. Their win marked a first World Team Cup medal for Slade and fellow Great Britain teammate Gary Cox.

The Lexus GB Junior World Team Cup team were crowned champions on the fifth day in Antalya as the British women’s team finish their week in fourth place and the men’s and quad teams lost their semi-finals.

Juniors: Brits clinch gold medal with win over USA
The Lexus GB junior team won their second World Team Cup title in three years after defeating defending champions USA 2-0 in Saturday’s final.
With the title on the line, Luca de Gouveia showed he was more than up to the challenge with a comfortable 6-0, 6-3 win over Sabina Czauz to get the Brits off to an impressive start.
Ruben Harris – who was part of the GB title-winning team in 2023 – then capped off a strong week with a spirited performance against Maximus Wong, recovering from a break down in both sets to beat the American 7-6(2), 6-3 and seal the gold medal.
The GB squad – including teammates Matthew Knoesen and Will Barton – are all supported by the LTA’s National Age Group Programme.
Great Britain have now won the Junior World Team Cup title four times since 2007.
Women’s: GB finish in fourth place
The British women’s team had to settle for a fourth place finish at this year’s World Team Cup in Turkey, after losing their bronze medal clash with France 2-0.
British No.2 Cornelia Oosthuizen put up a strong fight against French star Pauline Deroulede but eventually lost out 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in just over two hours.
It was then over to Lucy Shuker to keep the Brits in contention, but it was Ksenia Chatsteau who managed to clinch the victory for France 6-3, 6-3.
Men’s: Young British side defeated by top seeds Japan
Great Britain fought hard against No.1 seeds Japan, however, the experience of the world’s top-ranked team saw them through with a 2-0 win.
Dahnon Ward showed his quality up against four-time Grand Slam doubles finalist Takuya Miki, but the 36-year-old Japanese star just had the extra edge to see out a 6-3, 7-5 win.
Then it was over to Ben Bartram up against world No.1 Tokito Oda for arguably one of the toughest challenges in wheelchair tennis right now. Bartram proved he has the game to compete with the very best in the game, winning a close second set tie-break against the Paralympic gold medallist, however Oda had enough to get his team into the final with a 6-2, 6-7(3), 6-3 victory.
GB will now play France in the bronze medal match tomorrow.
Quad: Brits lose out in semi-final
Great Britain’s quad side will contend for the bronze medal against Australia tomorrow after they lost in the semi-final to Brazil 2-0.
A close tie saw both singles matches go to a deciding third set, with the Brazilians coming out on top on both occasions.
Greg Slade got off to a good start against Ymanitu Silva, but losing a tight second set tie-break paved the way for the Brazilian to complete his comeback 4-6, 7-6(7), 6-1.
British No.1 Andy Lapthorne fought his way back from a set down to try and keep the Brits in contention, however Leandro Pena found a way to win 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 and clinch a final spot.
GB played and beat Australia in the group stages and will be hoping to repeat the same result if they are to take home the bronze medal.
It’s been a day of mixed results as GB juniors battled past the top seeds in their semi-final while the women will move on to bronze medal match.

Women: GB lose out in the semi-finals to a strong Japanese team
It wasn’t to be for the Lexus GB women's team as they lost a tough battle in the World Team Cup semi-final against second seeds Japan 2-0.
The Brits were up against it after Cornelia Oosthuizen lost the opening match to Saki Takamuro 6-3, 6-1, leaving Lucy Shuker to need a win against world No.1 Yui Kamiji.
The British No. 1 gave a valiant effort against Kamiji, asking questions on her serve and stealing a break in each set. However, the Japanese player was too dominant and Shuker was defeated 6-1, 6-1.
The team will move on to tomorrow’s bronze medal match where they’ll face France.
Junior: GB battle through a close tie to secure a place in the final
The Lexus GB junior team have made the World Team Cup final for the fifth time since 2019 after they came through a deciding match against Belgium.
Lucas de Gouveia started the day well for the team with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Luna Gryp but while Ruben Harris fought hard against Alexander Lantermann, it wasn’t to be in the singles as he lost 6-4, 6-2.
Harris and de Gouveia then joined forces for what proved to be a tight deciding match, and it was the Brits who eventually prevailed with an impressive 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 victory in one hour and 40 minutes.
GB will now face the USA in the World Team Cup final on Saturday 10 May.

Men’s: Brits secure clean sweep over host nation
Great Britain’s men’s team secured their third consecutive 3-0 win in as many days, in yet another flawless performance in Turkey.
Andrew Penney got the Lexus GB men’s team off to a winning start after easing to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Toper Emirhan in an hour and nine minutes - marking his first ever singles win as a senior GB men’s player. It was then over to Dahnon Ward who sealed the tie with a dominant 6-3, 6-0 win over Hakan Gungor.
Penny and Ward then teamed up for the doubles rubber where the rising stars needed just 45 minutes to move past Turan Akalin and Emre Arslan in a faultless 6-0, 6-0 win to send the Brits into the men’s semi-final undefeated.
Next up, the British men will face Japan for a spot in the final.
Women's: Shuker fights back to lead British women to comeback over Brazil
It was a tricky start for the GB women's team against a resilient Brazilian team, but the experienced Lucy Shuker rose to the occasion to spearhead her nation to the semis.
After Ruby Bishop marginally lost out to Meirycoll Duval 7-5, 6-4, it was over to Shuker to keep the Brits' semi-final dreams alive as she took on Jade Lanai.
In a gritty display, the two-time Paralympic medallist fought back from 0-4 down in the second and third sets to secure an epic victory, winning 5-7, 6-4, 7-8(6) to force a deciding doubles rubber.
Shuker returned to court in under an hour alongside Cornelia Oosthuizen where the British duo clinched a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win over Lanai and Duval to complete the comeback.
The GB women will now turn their attention to a testing semi-final battle against second seeds Japan.
Quad: Lapthorne victories lead the Brits to semi-finals
Despite the Lexus GB quad team losing out to a strong United States team 2-1, they still managed to secure their spot in the final four.
Greg Slade got proceedings underway against Andrew Bogdanov where he lost out in a 6-3, 6-3 defeat before Andy Lapthorne levelled the scoreboards by defeating former world No.1 David Wagner 6-1, 6-3 to force a deciding doubles rubber.
There, Lapthorne teamed up with Gary Cox to face a difficult pairing in Wagner and Bogdanov which saw the American pair prevail, 6-2, 6-2.
They are set to take on Brazil on Saturday 10 May.
Junior: GB reach final four following dominant display
The Lexus GB junior team also had a day to remember as they dominated Germany in a 3-0 victory to secure their place in the semi-finals.
Lucas de Gouveia put in an exceptional performance against Timo Schmiesing 6-0, 6-0 before Will Barton rode the momentum to punch Great Britain's ticket to the final four with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over John Brendhal.
Eager to make it a clean sweep in the round-robin stages, Barton and Matthew Knoesen joined forces to bypass Ela Porges and Schmiesing 6-0, 6-0 in just 49 minutes to see them top Group B.
Great Britain continued their winning runs on the second day of action at the World Team Cup, with the Lexus GB men’s, quad and junior teams all extending their leads at the top of their respective groups.

The women’s team will return to action tomorrow in a group-decider against Brazil.
Men’s: Brits combine for standout win against Brazil
Great Britain’s men’s team put in an impressive performance against fourth seeds Brazil to claim their second 3-0 win in as many days.
Dahnon Ward got the day off to a positive start as he saw off Diego Kohlrausch 6-4, 6-0 in an hour and 15 minutes, before Ben Bartram clinched his first career win against world No.19 Daniel Rodrigues 7-6(4), 6-4.
With the tie already sealed, Bartram combined with Andrew Penney to see out a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kohlrausch and Gustavo Carneiro Silva in the doubles.
The fifth seeded Brits sit top of Group D at the moment, with a win over Turkey in their final match guaranteeing that they will progress as the group winners. Turkey have lost 3-0 to both Brazil and Sri Lanka.
Quad: Lapthorne & Slade lead win over Australia
2024 Paris Paralympic silver medallists Andy Lapthorne and Greg Slade are building momentum at this year’s World Team Cup after leading a crushing 3-0 win over Australia.
The Brits reeled off all three matches without losing a set – starting with Slade’s early singles win against Finn Broadbent 6-1, 7-6(1).
Lapthorne’s experience told in two tricky matches to close out the victory for GB. He beat Benjamin Wenzel 6-3, 7-6(5) in a close singles battle, before combining with Slade to defeat Broadbent and Wenzel 6-4, 7-5.
Two wins from two, GB will play USA in their final match of Group B. The Americans beat Colombia 2-1 earlier today but were defeated by Australia in their opener.
Junior: GB win in doubles decider
For the second day in a row, Great Britain’s junior team had to clinch a doubles decider to win their tie against Brazil 2-1 and cement their place atop Group B
Ruben Harris proved the difference once again for GB with a singles and doubles victory. Matthew Knoesen put in a brilliant performance but eventually lost to Vitoria Miranda 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-3, before Harris saw off Luiz Calixto 6-4, 6-0.
Harris then teamed up with Lucas de Gouveia for the decider, coming through with a comfortable 6-1, 6-4 win to secure back-to-back victories for the British team.
A win over Germany will guarantee that Great Britain progress as Group B winners.
It’s been a winning start for the Lexus GB teams competing at the 2025 World Team Cup in Antalya, Turkey, with the men’s, women’s, quad and junior teams all picking up victories on day one.

Men’s: GB open with win over Sri Lanka
Great Britain’s new-look men’s team opened their World Team Cup account with a 3-0 win over Sri Lanka.
The defending champions – who are without Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid this week – showed their quality in a challenging tie, with Dahnon Ward, Ben Bartram and Andrew Penney all coming away with a victory to their names already.
Ward got the Brits underway with a comfortable win over Gamini Dissanayake 6-2, 6-3 to take an early lead.
It was then over to Bartram, who had a trickier match up against Suresh Dharmasena. Having led by a set at 4-0, the Briton was forced to a deciding third set where he eventually came through 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-4.
To cap off a strong start from the team – Penney made his senior men’s World Team Cup debut in the doubles, becoming LTA Colour Holder No.330. Penney and Ward defeated Gamini and WPJ Wijesiri 6-1, 6-4.
The Brits still have to face difficult matches against Brazil and Turkey in the coming days.
Women’s: Clean sweep for the Brits against Tanzania
The GB women’s team had a more straightforward morning in Antalya, as they beat Tanzania 3-0 to the loss of just two games.
Ruby Bishop started with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Pendo Zengo – her first senior World Team Cup singles win – before Cornelia Oosthuizen repeated the exact same scoreline against Rhema Selemani.
British No.1 Lucy Shuker made an appearance in the doubles alongside Bishop, with the Brits taking a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Rehema Selemani and Lucy Shirma.
GB will face Brazil in their next match in their bid to progress as the winners of Group C.
Quad: Singles wins for Lapthorne & Slade
Andy Lapthorne and Greg Slade’s singles wins were enough to see the Brits claim victory in the first match of Group B in the quad event.
Slade enjoyed a statement win against Albeiro Moreno in the first match of the tie, 6-4, 6-0, before four-time Paralympic medal winner Lapthorne overcame world No.18 Daniel Alejandro Campaz Escobar 7-5, 6-2.
Gary Cox combined with Slade in the doubles, but the Brits lost out to Moreno and Campaz Escobar 6-2, 6-3.
GB will have to play USA and Australia in their remaining group matches.
Juniors: Brits win doubles decider against Australia
It was a winning start for the British junior team as well – seeing off Australia 2-1 in the deciding doubles.
Despite Will Barton losing the first match 6-2, 6-4 against Arlo Shawcross, Ruben Harris secured two wins to see the Brits clinch a much-needed victory.
Harris defeated Sonny Rennison 6-1, 6-2 in the second singles rubber, before joining forces with Lucas de Gouveia to beat Harrison Dudley and Gillie Lumby 6-1, 6-1 in the decider.
