Hewett crowned Italian Open champion
Alfie Hewett got his clay court season off to a winning start by winning his fourth singles title of the year at the Italian Open in Rome.
Top seed Hewett secured straight set wins over Dutchmen Robin Groenewoud and Maarten Ter Hofte, and Spain’s Daniel Caverzaschi on his way to setting up the first all-British WC500 singles final on the ITF’s new Premier Tier of wheelchair tournaments.
Meanwhile, British No.2 Gordon Reid beat Spain’s world No.3 Martin de la Puente for the second time this season, in the semi, to reach his fourth singles final of 2026.
World No.5 Reid was unable to sustain his early challenge against Hewett, who claimed his third successive Rome title 6-4, 6-0.
Staying at the Italian Open, Neal Skupski and American partner Christian Harrison made the semi-finals of the men’s doubles but lost out to eventual champions Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori 7-6(9), 3-6, 10-6.
Choinski & Bass win Zagreb Challenger
There were two British victories at the Zagreb Challenger last week, with both Jan Choinski and Finn Bass sealing titles.
29-year-old Choinski moved up to a career-high world No.104 after winning the singles title in Croatia.
He beat fellow Brit Arthur Fery in the semi-final before claiming a 7-6(6), 7-6(2) victory against Zsombor Piros of Hungary in the final.
This is Choinski’s eighth ATP Challenger title and first of the season. He’s won all eight on clay and looks in good form ahead of Roland Garros qualifying this week.
Bass teamed up with Anthony Genov to win the first ATP Challenger trophy of his career.
The British, Bulgarian duo came from a set behind to defeat George Goldhoff and Johannes Ingildsen 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 in the final.
Swan wins biggest trophy in four years
Katie Swan won her biggest singles title since 2022 as she continued her impressive run of form at the W75 Kurume.
The 27-year-old Brit defeated Japan’s Kyoka Okamura in the final 7-5, 6-1 and has now climbed to world No.203 in the WTA rankings.
It’s back-to-back singles titles for Swan in Japan after the British star won the W35 Fukuoka last week.
Meanwhile, Finn Murgett won his fourth ITF doubles title in his last five events at the M15 Monastir in Tunisia.
Murgett and Dutchman Daniel De Jonge beat French team Cesar Bouchelaghem 6-3, 6-2 to seal the title.
Shuker & Ward lift doubles titles in Madrid

Lucy Shuker and Dahnon Ward earned doubles titles at the Emilio Sanchez-Vicario Foundation WC100 tournament in Madrid last week.
Shuker won her fourth women’s doubles title of 2026 – and her third partnering Pauline Deroulede of France – after the top seeds were awarded a walkover ahead of their scheduled title decided against another Anglo-French duo, Abbie Breakwell and Charlotte Fairbank, with British No.3 Breakwell having reached her second doubles final of 2026.
Ward had the misfortune of being drawn against his doubles partner and second seed Alwande Sikhosana in the first round of the Madrid WC100 men’s singles, the South African prevailing 6-3, 6-3 en route to reaching the final.
However, Ward and Sikhosana’s combined talents as doubles partners saw the top seeds drop just three games in both of their matches in Madrid, defeating home favourites Mario Roque and Enrique Sisca Meseguer 6-3, 6-0 to lift their first title together.
