• 2 minute read

The latest from the world of British tennis, including two WC1000 titles, more doubles champions and singles trophies on the ITF Tour.

Hewett & Reid crowned champions in Iizuka

Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid took home titles at the third WC1000 event of the season – the Japan Open.

Hewett captured the singles title for the first time in his career, overcoming home favourite and World No.1 Tokito Oda 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the final.

His victory in Iizuka City marks his fourth singles title of the season and first at WC1000 level ahead of the upcoming clay court season.

Hewett also teamed up with fellow Brit Reid to win their second Japan Open men’s doubles title after beating third seeds Tom Egberink of the Netherlands and Martin de la Puente of Spain 6-3, 6-1.

The 2026 Japan Open also brought a first career WC1000 final for British No.2 quad player Greg Slade. Slade and Brazil’s Leandro Pena, playing their first tournament together, finished runners-up in the quad doubles final after losing out to Dutchman Sam Schroder and Jin Woodman of Australia 6-3, 6-1.

Stevenson, Christie & Silva lead doubles titles

David Stevenson and Canadian partner Cleeve Harper reached their second ATP Challenger Tour doubles final in as many weeks at the Savannah Challenger.

Having finished runners-up in Tallahassee, Stevenson and Harper responded with a title-winning run in Savannah – beating Luis David Martinez and Cristian Rodriguez 7-6(4), 6-2 in the final.

Stevenson now has three Challenger titles on the season, winning two alongside Harper.

Meanwhile, closer to home, British duo Freya Christie and Eden Silva lifted silverware at the Lexus GB Pro Series Roehampton.

Christie and Silva won the ITF W50 event with a 7-6(7), 3-6, 10-3 final victory over fellow Brit Emily Appleton and Viktoria Hruncakova.

Gray & Searle capture ITF singles titles

Alastair Gray and Henry Searle were amongst the ITF singles title-winners last week – sealing trophies in China and Spain.

Gray was a dominant force at the M25 Luzhou, dropping just 18 games in five matches to win the title – finishing with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Jie Cul.

This was the 14th singles title of Gray’s career and second of 2026, adding to the M25 Maanshan a few weeks ago.

20-year-old Searle won the M15 Sanxenxo singles title in his third straight ITF final.

The 2023 Wimbledon boys’ singles champion beat Tiago Torres of Portugal in the final 6-4, 6-2 to lift his second trophy of the season.

Finn Bass teamed up with Anthony Genov to win the M25 Angers last week. The British, Bulgarian pair defeated Marko Maric and Tadja Radovanovic in the final 6-4, 6-2.

Finally, Finn Murgett and Marcus Walters completed back-to-back M15 Heraklion titles with a comfortable 6-2, 6-0 final win over Alex Jones and Miles Jones of USA.
