• 2 minute read
Gordon Reid and Greg Slade have both been drawn against current world No.1 players and reigning Wimbledon champions ahead of Tuesday’s opening day of wheelchair tennis action at the All England Club.
With the 10th anniversary of his victory in the inaugural men’s wheelchair singles final at The Championships coming up later this week, world No.5 and reigning Lexus Eastbourne Open champion Reid will play top seed Tokito Oda on Tuesday, as the Japanese star begins his Wimbledon title defence off the back of winning last week’s Lexus British Open Roehampton.
Alfie Hewett will open his bid to regain the men’s wheelchair singles title he won in 2024, with a match against former Wimbledon men’s wheelchair doubles champion Tom Egberink. Their only previous meeting on grass came in the first round of last year’s Lexus British Open.
British No.3 Ben Bartram will face his doubles partner Takuya Miki as he opens his third Wimbledon campaign, while Andrew Penney makes his Grand Slam tournament debut with a meeting against fellow debutant Maarten Ter Hofte of the Netherlands.
In the women’s singles, British No.1 Lucy Shuker is set to start her 16th Wimbledon with a tough undertaking against China’s world No.3 Li Xiaohui.

British No.2 Cornelia Oosthuizen takes on world No.8 Ksenia Chasteau of France in her first-round contest this year. The pair are tied on two wins apiece in their head-to-head, although they have not met since 2014.
A week on from becoming British No.1 in the quad singles rankings for the first time, Slade’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals at The Championships for the first time rest with a meeting against three-time defending champion and world No.1 Niels Vink.
2019 Wimbledon quad singles finalist Andy Lapthorne opens his seventh title campaign on Wednesday at the All England Club with a meeting against world No.6 Gonzalo Enrique Lazarte as the Argentinian makes his Wimbledon debut.
Wednesday’s opening day of Wimbledon wheelchair doubles competition will see top seeds Hewett and Reid start their bid for a seventh Wimbledon title together with a contest against Dutch duo Egberink and Ter Hofte.
