Lexus British Open 2026: Brits Hewett, Reid, Lapthorne, Slade and Shuker among strongest-ever entry for 2026 Lexus British Open Roehampton

• 2 minute read

Britain’s Alfie Hewett, Gordon Reid, Andy Lapthorne and Lucy Shuker are among a wealth of Paralympic medallists and Grand Slam champions across the men’s, women's and quad wheelchair world rankings who are entered for the LTA’s Lexus British Open Roehampton, which takes place at the Wimbledon Qualifying and Community Sports Centre on 28 June – 3 July.

The Lexus British Open Roehampton is one of six elite WC1000 events on the ITF’s 2026 UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour and an ITF J300 level event – the highest-level international wheelchair and junior tennis tournaments in Britain outside of The Championships, Wimbledon.

Reigning singles champion Hewett joins his Paris 2024 Paralympic gold medal-winning doubles partner Reid among all 14 of the world’s top-ranked players on the men’s entry list, Hewett and Reid having won their 24th Grand Slam title together earlier this month at the French Open.

The men’s entry includes Argentina’s 2024 champion Gustavo Fernandez and world No.1 Tokito Oda of Japan, who will be looking for his first title in Roehampton.

Hewett and Reid are also among four British players on the men’s singles entry list, alongside Ben Bartram and Andrew Penney, who were among the British wheelchair stars awarded wild cards for Wimbledon earlier this week.

World No.2 and 2025 runner-up Diede de Groot, the winner of four British Open singles titles before the tournament became a grass court event in 2024, heads a women’s entry that brings together 14 of the world’s top-15 ranked players.

De Groot is joined among a stellar entry by fellow Dutch player and another former British Open champion in Aniek van Koot, as well as Wang Ziying and Li Xiaohui, who made history in 2025 by becoming the first Chinese wheelchair players to win Grand Slam titles.

British No.1 Shuker and British No.2 Cornelia Oosthuizen carry British hopes in the women’s singles and doubles.

Eighteen-time Grand Slam champion and former British Open champion Andy Lapthorne is one of 12 of the world’s top-14 ranked players and one of three Brits entered for the quad singles in Roehampton, with the entry led by Dutch duo Niels Vink and Sam Schroder.

Lapthorne is joined on the entry list by world No.9 Greg Slade, his silver medal-winning doubles partner at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, as well as fellow Brit Oliver Cox.

For the third year running the British Open will be a joint Wheelchair and Junior event. The J300 junior ITF event will showcase some of the world’s best junior players, with eight of the top 10 boys and six of the top 10 girls on the ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Rankings currently among the entries.

Reigning Lexus Junior National Championships U18 boys’ champion Mark Ceban and U18 girls’ champion Daniella Britton are among the leading British entries.

Kirsty Thomson, LTA Tournament Director, said: “In this 50th Anniversary year for wheelchair tennis, it’s fantastic to also be able to celebrate our strongest entry for the Lexus British Open Roehampton. The tournament provides a unique experience for tennis fans, who are able to watch the very best wheelchair tennis players in the world alongside some of the rising stars on the international junior tennis scene.

”This year we are delighted to also be able to enhance the experience for fans, with our Fan Day on Sunday, 28 June, when anyone can get on court and try wheelchair tennis for themselves, with guidance from experienced coaches, as well as enjoying a host of other fun activities alongside watching the live tournament action underway in our junior draws.”

This summer the LTA’s grass court season features the biggest ever spotlight on wheelchair tennis as the sport celebrates its 50th Anniversary.

Hewett, Reid, Bartram and Penney will all play in a wheelchair tennis exhibition at the HSBC Championships at the Queen’s Club this coming weekend (20-21 June).

Meanwhile, Shuker, Oosthuizen, Lapthorne, Slade and Cox will among the Brits playing in women’s and quad wheelchair exhibition draws at the Lexus Nottingham Open, before the action moves on to the WC500 Lexus Eastbourne Open, from 25-27 June.
