20-year-old Andrew Penney is the latest player to achieve LTA Colour Holder status after making his debut for the senior men’s Lexus GB World Team Cup team against Sri Lanka.
Penney joined forces with Ben Bartram in the doubles to help the Brits secure a 3-0 victory in their opening match of Group D.
There, Penney and Bartram eased to a straight sets victory over Sri Lanka's Gamini Dissanayake and Suresh Dharmasena, winning 6-1, 6-4 on debut.
LTA Colour Holders acknowledges, recognises and celebrates players, past and present, who have represented Great Britain in the Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cupand Wheelchair Tennis World Team Cup, as well as at the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
Like a ‘cap’ that a player receives playing for their country in either football or rugby, when a player has competed for Great Britain in tennis, they receive a Colour.
Speaking on earning his Colour Holder status, Penney said, "It’s a huge privilege to represent Great Britain, especially in such a unique situation in the men’s where we have such a high calibre of player. To get that opportunity is amazing."
Penney received his first call-up for the senior men's Lexus GB team off the back of impressive results over the last year. In 2024 he won nine combined singles and doubles titles, including the ITF 3 JTCC Championships where he picked up two trophies, and made his debut at the UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters.
The young Briton is supported by the Pro Transition Programme on the LTA Wheelchair Performance Pathway and has achieved career high ranking in both singles (No.25) and doubles (No.27) this year.
Penney was part of the GB team that finished runners-up in the junior competition at the World Team Cup in 2022 alongside current teammates Bartram and Dahnon Ward.
