World Team Cup 2026: Lexus GB Men's team capture fifth title in Orlando

The Lexus GB World Team Cup Men’s Team became BNP Paribas World Team Cup champions for the fifth time.
The silverware came after Alfie Hewett, Gordon Reid, Ben Bartram and captain Martyn Whait secured a late-night 2-1 victory over Japan on Saturday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
To kick off the day, Reid secured his fifth straight-sets win over Arai in five career meetings after beating the world No.21 6-2, 6-2 for his third singles victory in three days, before extreme heat in Orlando meant that world No.2 Hewett’s much-anticipated singles match against world No.1 Oda started some six hours later in cooler temperatures.
A week on from Hewett’s straight sets victory over Oda in the US Open final, hopes were high of a repeat performance from the British No.1. Despite Hewett earning a 2-0 lead at the start of the first set and a 3-0 lead at the start of the second set, he was unable to build on his momentum and Oda ultimately prevailed 6-4, 7-5.
However, reigning Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open champions Hewett and Reid demonstrated exactly why they are the world’s leading men’s doubles partnership and the winners of 26 major titles.
At the end of a marathon final day of play that took 12 hours to complete from start to finish due to weather interruptions, Hewett and Reid reeled off six games in a row to defeat Arai and Oda 6-1, 6-2 to wrap up a fifth World Team Cup title since 2015.
A delighted Reid said following the deciding doubles victory, “We’re really happy to get the title back. We produced a really strong doubles performance after a tough one for Alfie in his singles. It was amazing how he bounced back and brought so much energy to the doubles court.
"We deserved it and are really pleased to go home as champions after all the hard won from all the wider team that’s been with us this week.”
Hewett, who previously joined forces with Reid in World Team Cup-winning teams in 2015, 2019, 2023 and 2024, said:
”It’s the first time it’s come down to the deciding doubles for us, so I’m just really happy that we got over the line. It’s always a privilege to play for your country and there’s been a great atmosphere and team spirit again this week between all the lads.
"I’m a bit disappointed that it wasn’t a 100% day after my loss in the singles, but it was a really high-level match and just came down to a few points in both sets that could have gone either way.”
Elsewhere, Andy Lapthorne and Greg Slade completed Great Britain’s campaign in the quad event on a winning note for the second year in a row. Last year’s bronze medallists, Great Britain finished fifth this year after beating Brazil 2-0, with Slade beating Ymanitu Silva 6-1, 6-1 and Lapthorne defeating Leandro Pena
