A Tennis Wales 2026 Tie Break funded project led by the Bengal Dragons Foundation has achieved outstanding success, helping to engage and inspire more women and girls from ethnically diverse backgrounds to get involved in padel across Cardiff.
Working in partnership with PADIUM Cardiff and Tennis Wales, the project explored the demand for female-only padel opportunities, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for women and girls of all backgrounds and abilities. Interest in the programme exceeded all expectations, with more than 300 females joining a dedicated WhatsApp community after registering their interest through an expression of interest campaign.
The initiative highlighted a significant appetite for female-only opportunities within the sport, with participants attracted by the chance to learn new skills, improve their wellbeing, build confidence and connect with others in a safe and inclusive setting.
The strong response has created a thriving community of prospective players and demonstrates the power of targeted programmes to break down barriers to participation and help more women and girls discover the benefits of padel. The project serves as an excellent example of how Tennis Wales' Tie Break Fund is supporting innovative local initiatives that create lasting impact and open up the sport to new audiences across Wales.
