Midnight Ramadan Padel Initiative Brings Community Together
2026 saw a new addition to the Ramadan sport programme in Swansea out west and it was a huge success, as padel was introduced for the first time.
Delivered in partnership with Tennis Wales and Sport Wales, the initiative welcomed over 100 participants across the month, creating a vibrant and inclusive environment for people to stay active while observing Ramadan. The sessions brought together a wide range of participants, from those picking up a racket for the first time to those enjoying more competitive play, all contributing to a fantastic atmosphere on and off the court.
The introduction of padel proved to be a perfect fit for the programme, offering a fun, social, and accessible way for the Muslim community to remain connected and engaged through sport during a significant period in the calendar.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to breaking down barriers and providing meaningful opportunities for underrepresented groups to access physical activity in a way that suits their cultural and community needs. Tennis Wales’s prayer mats on offer at the venue also meant that Muslims could carry out their religious duties in a safe and welcoming environment in the quiet rooms provided.

Following such a positive response, there is strong momentum to continue growing padel as part of future Ramadan programmes and wider community tennis initiatives across Wales and we look forward to applying to the Tennis Wales Tie Break Fund for a Women and Girls only project for the community.
