Tie Break Funding Helps Introduce Tennis Through Welsh Language in Gwent

Thanks to support from the Tie Break Fund, Urdd Rhanbarth Gwent received £1,254.70 to deliver a women and girls tennis project, providing young participants with the opportunity to experience tennis for the first time through the medium of Welsh.

The project engaged girls aged 4 to 11, introducing them to the fundamentals of tennis through a variety of fun, inclusive activities. Sessions focused on developing confidence with a racket, learning basic tennis skills, and encouraging participation in a welcoming environment, all while promoting the use of the Welsh language.

During a visit to one of the sessions, it was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and enjoyment from everyone involved, with participants building new skills, making friends, and gaining confidence through sport.

The project is a great example of how Tie Break funding is helping community organisations create new opportunities for women and girls to get active, try tennis, and enjoy the game in settings that are accessible, inclusive, and culturally relevant.
