Pen-y-Ffordd Tennis Club Serves Up Pride Celebration

3 MINUTE READ

Pen-y-Ffordd Tennis Club recently brought members together for its first-ever Pride social event, celebrating inclusion, diversity and community both on and off the court.

Held on 25 June, the event welcomed 16 club members who arrived in bright and colourful sportswear to mark Pride Month. Special Pride-themed banners were displayed courtside throughout the evening, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for everyone taking part.

The celebrations extended beyond the tennis, with members bringing a selection of colourful food to enjoy together after play. The event proved to be a huge success, requiring minimal organisation thanks to the enthusiasm and support of club members.

The Pride social also generated significant interest online, with the club's Instagram post attracting more than 1,100 views and helping to showcase the club's commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all. As an added bonus, the event raised £60 for local charity, Nightingale House Hospice.

Coincidentally, two members of the club committee were also attending a Tennis Wales Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Steering Group meeting on the same evening. This provided an excellent opportunity to share the club's experiences, learn from others across the tennis community, and discuss ways to continue making tennis welcoming and accessible for everyone.

Pen-y-Ffordd Tennis Club hopes the success of the event will inspire other clubs to host similar initiatives and continue demonstrating that tennis is a sport where everyone belongs.

Well done to everyone at Pen-y-Ffordd Tennis Club for championing inclusion and creating a positive, welcoming environment for all.
