Supporting ethnically diverse communities at your venue

Many venues want to better reflect the communities around them but are unsure where to start. Building relationships with ethnically diverse communities is often about listening, understanding local needs and creating genuine partnerships.

Successful venues recognise that there is no single approach. Instead, they take time to understand their local area, build trust and create opportunities that are relevant and welcoming.

Five practical things your venue can do:

  • Learn about the communities living in your local area.
  • Build relationships before launching new programmes.
  • Engage community leaders and local organisations.
  • Use inclusive and representative communications.
  • Listen to participant feedback and adapt your offer.

Connecting Communities Plan

Our Connecting Communities Plan sets out the work we are doing with people from an ethnically diverse background to make tennis and padel inclusive and relevant in all communities across the country.

Black and Asian Coaches Network

The LTA Black and Asian Coaches Network (BACN) is a UK-wide initiative launched by the LTA to support, connect, and increase visibility for Black and Asian tennis and padel coaches. We run events across the year to bring ethnically diverse coaches together in a safe and inclusive environment.

To find out about upcoming events, please visit LTA Coach Hub.

Grants for Ethnically Diverse Coaches

The LTA is looking to increase the percentage of coaches from ethnically diverse communities who are either starting or progressing through the LTA Qualification pathway. To do so, we are providing support available for a range of courses, as well as mentoring, through an application process.
