Supporting parents & carers of players
As an official who is often face-to-face with parents of players at competitions and tournaments, we appreciate when you can signpost them to support which helps them to help their child(ren). There are a few different resources available to parents/carers, and some are aimed at parents/carers with a specific level of experience (i.e. completely new, all the way through to quite seasoned).
For all parents and carers, we have a Parent Support programme which is available via the LTA website. It provides key resources to help them support their child.
For parents and carers of players who are new to competing, they can read our “Ready, Play” guide which is an introduction to competition for parents, containing useful information and tips.
For parents and carers of players who are regularly competing, our Competition Parenting Workshop is now available as an online course, so parents can access this important content at any time. The interactive course is designed to provide parents with the knowledge and skills they need to positively support their child at tennis competitions.
Competition Parenting Workshop online course
Further guidance on how to support parents is available in our Supporting Parents of Competitive Players guide.
Lastly, there's a peer-to-peer supportive group on Facebook for tennis parents/carers in Britain. It's a space where parents/carers can ask for advice, share experiences for the benefit of others, and explore ideas to help the wider community better support their competing children.
Referee Whatsapp groups
Regional referee WhatsApp groupchats are in place to give you an opportunity to connect with other referees in your region, ask questions, and receive peer-to-peer support. They're also a good way to introduce yourself to others on the group and find opportunities to work at a local and county level.
There's a few ground rules to the groups:
- Be kind and courteous
- No promotions or scams
- Be respectful
- Engage
