Which British players are competing at the 2025 US Open?

Women’s singles

Three British players have direct entry into the women’s singles draw at the US Open – including Emma Raducanu, Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal.

British No.1 Raducanu heads to New York in some of the best form she’s shown since her run to the US Open title in 2021. Raducanu made her first WTA 1000 quarter-final at the Miami Open, reached the quarter-final of the HSBC Championships and recently fought her way to the semi-finals in Washington.

Three-time WTA title-winner Boulter made the third round at the US Open in 2023 and will be hoping to spark into form at the final Grand Slam of the season.

Kartal is set to make her US Open main draw debut this year. In the 12 months since bowing out in the final round of qualifying, the young Brit has won her first WTA title in Monastir, reached the fourth round of Wimbledon and broken into the top 50.

Men’s singles

Last year, British No.1 Jack Draper made headlines in reaching his first Grand Slam semi-final at the US Open. Draper has since gone on to new heights, winning his first ATP Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and breaking into the ATP top five for the first time.

Draper will be competing in his first event since Wimbledon having spent the last month managing an injury.

Joining him will be former world No.8 Cam Norrie, who has been playing his best tennis in the big tournaments this season. After a fourth round run at Roland Garros, Norrie went on to reach the quarter-finals at Wimbledon.

Finally, Jacob Fearnley completes the direct main draw entries. Fearnley has continued to impress in his first full year on the tour, making the third round at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, clinched ATP Masters 1000 wins in Miami, Madrid and Rome, and made the quarter-finals at Queen’s.

Qualifying, doubles and wheelchair player lists are still to be confirmed.

In 2021, an 18-year-old Raducanu made history as the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam women’s singles title in the Open Era and the first British woman since Virgina Wade in 1977. The young Brit defeated Leylah Fernandez in the final to complete an historic run without dropping a set.

Back in 2012, Andy Murray won his first of three Grand Slam titles after beating Novak Djokovic 7–6(10), 7–5, 2–6, 3–6, 6–2 in the final. Murray also made the final in 2008.

Wade is the only other past British singles champion in the Open Era, defeating Billie Jean King in straight sets in the 1968 final. She is also a former women’s doubles champion, with two titles alongside Margaret Court in 1973 and 1975.

British doubles star Joe Salisbury holds the record for most consecutive doubles titles – winning three years in a row from 2021 to 2023 with American Rajeev Ram.

He’s joined by Jamie Murray and Roger Taylor as the only other British men’s doubles champions in the Open Era.

Murray has also won the mixed doubles title three times, joining Salisbury and Peter Curtis as past British champions.
