US Open 2025: Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu draw qualifiers; Sonay Kartal and Katie Boulter face seeded players

• 2 MINUTE READ

The draws have been announced for US Open 2025 as six British stars found out who they will face in New York for the final Grand Slam of the 2025 season.

Here’s a rundown of who the British players will face at the US Open and their paths through the draw.

US Open first round draws

British No.1’s dealt qualifiers in opening round

Fresh off the back of competing at the US Open mixed doubles event, British No.1’s Raducanu and Draper will open up their singles campaigns against qualifiers.

Starting off with the former champion, Raducanu will be hoping to earn her first win at Flushing Meadows since her historic run to the title four years ago. In the second round, the world No.35 could take on either another qualifier or 24th seed Veronika Kudermetova and former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the third.

Meanwhile in the men’s draw, Draper will kick-start his bid for another dream run in New York against either a qualifier or lucky loser. A semi-finalist last year, Draper’s path through the draw could see him play Lorenzo Musetti in the fourth round, Jannik Sinner in the quarter-final and Alexander Zverev in the semis.

The Indian Wells champion got off to the perfect start in New York after reaching the semi-finals of the mixed doubles event alongside Jessica Pegula and will be gunning to carry that form with him into the singles main draw.

Boulter & Kartal dealt tough openers; Norrie faces home favourite

Three-time WTA titleholder Boulter has been dealt a tough hand in the opening round of the US Open. The British No.3 is set to take on 27th seed Marta Kostyuk, who she beat back in March 2024 on her way to clinching the biggest title of her career at the San Diego Open.

If Boulter can defeat the Ukrainian for the second time in her career, she could go on to face a qualifier in the second and reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys in the third.

Similar to Boulter, British No.2 Kartal will have a tough battle on her hands against 18th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia. That said, Kartal will arrive in New York having won the pair’s only previous meeting at this year’s Indian Wells when the Brighton-born star dismantled Haddad Maia 6-2, 6-1.

Should Kartal come through her first round match against the Brazilian, she could take on Roland Garros semi-finalist Lois Boisson or Swiss star Viktorija Golubic in the second round.

Elsewhere, Norrie has drawn an exciting opening clash against American Sebastian Korda. The pair have met four times in the past with Korda leading the head-to-head 3-1.

This year's Wimbledon quarter-finalist could be set for a blockbuster third round clash against Novak Djokovic should he make a strong start in New York.

Fearnley faces a tricky challenge in the form of HSBC Championships semi-finalist Roberto Bautista Agut. The British No.3 would likely move on to play third seed Zverev for a third time this year, should he beat the Spaniard in his opener.
