Nitto ATP Finals 2025: Henry Patten & Harri Heliovaara crowned doubles champions

• 3 MINUTE READ

Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara lifted the Nitto ATP Finals doubles title after an impressive win over British duo Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury.

The two-time Grand Slam champions and second seeds defeated Skupski and Salisbury 7-5, 6-3 in an hour and 21 minutes to win the ATP’s year-end Finals.

29-year-old Patten is the youngest doubles winner at the ATP Finals for six years (Pierre-Hugues Herbert, 28) and is only the third British player to lift a trophy at the year-end tournament (Andy Murray 2016 and Salisbury 2022, 2023).

“I want to start by saying a huge thank you to all the fans for coming and supporting today,” said Patten after the final. “It’s a dream to get to play on a court like this and in a city like Turin.

“Neal and Joe, sorry guys but congrats on a great year and tournament. Thank you for being such a big part of British tennis and British doubles. You guys have led the way for us for a number of years now, so thank you so much.”

It was an extra special week for Patten who started the tournament just days after getting engaged to his long-term partner Ellie.

“I have to give a special mention to my new fiancé Ellie,” he said. “I thought Turin was a pretty romantic place and luckily she said yes. Thank you for your support and I can’t wait to spend our lives together.”

Patten and Heliovaara now add the Nitto ATP Finals to a trophy cabinet that includes the 2024 Wimbledon and 2025 Australian Open titles since they joined forces a year and a half ago.

They finish the season as the No.2 ranked team in the world, behind Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool.

Speaking on their latest achievement, Heliovaara added: “These are the moments we dream of, to be here as the champions. It’s what we work so hard for. Dreams would never come true if you don’t have good people around you and Henry, what a one and a half years it’s been.”

For Skupski and Salisbury this was the sixth time they have finished runners-up in six finals played this year – including Roland Garros and US Open.

Salisbury – who is now set to take a short break away from tennis – also saw his 14-match winning streak at the ATP Finals come to an end.

“We have to congratulate Henry and Harri,” Salisbury said. “You guys have been amazing all year, all week, and you were definitely the better team today so you deserve it.

“Thank you to Neal for playing with me this year. We’ve had some great times, we’ve had some tough times but that’s tennis, that’s sport. I’ve really enjoyed being on the court with you all year.”

Patten and Heliovaara made a very solid start to the year-end final – dropping just four points behind serve in the opening set.

Skupski did well to deny the Australian Open champions three break points across both his service games but in the end it was Salisbury who suffered the decisive break.

At 6-5 in the first set, Patten produced a few moments of magic returning against the two-time former champion – not only to create four set points but to then seal the one set lead after 46 minutes.

Patten and Heliovaara came into Turin off the back of winning the Rolex Paris Masters title just a few weeks before and showed great confidence and composure throughout the final.

Facing Skupski’s serve at 2-1, 30-30, Patten drilled a backhand down the line to set his partner up for a smash winner, before Heliovaara caught Salisbury out at the net to seal the early break in the second.

Salisbury showed his competitive spirit to save two match points on his own serve, before handing it over to Patten to try and serve out the match.

With the pressure of serving for the title, the British star fired three aces to tick off another milestone in their careers.
