US Open 2026: Arthur Fery to face Lorenzo Musetti as draws are revealed for British stars
• 2 minute read
Wimbledon semi-finalist Arthur Fery has been drawn against 13th seed Lorenzo Musetti at the US Open as the British stars learn their first round opponents.
Fery – one of four British players with direct entry at the US Open this year – will play one of the standout matches of the first round against former Roland Garros and Wimbledon semi-finalist Musetti.
The 24-year-old Brit became only the second wild card to ever reach the final four at Wimbledon this summer and has continued his strong form with a first ATP Masters 1000 victory in Cincinnati and a deep run in Winston-Salem.
This will be Fery’s first meeting with Musetti, with the winner moving on to face either Dane Sweeny or Corentin Moutet in the second round and a potential meeting with 21st seed Luciano Darderi in the third.
US Open first round draws
- Cam Norrie (GBR) (29) vs Luca Van Assche (FRA)
- Arthur Fery (GBR) vs Lorenzo Musetti (ITA) (13)
- Jan Choinski (GBR) vs Botic van de Zandschulp (NED)
- Katie Boulter (GBR) vs Carol Young Suh Lee (USA)
29th seed Cam Norrie is in the bottom half of the men’s singles draw, starting off against France’s Luca Van Assche, who won his first ATP title in Estoril last month.
Norrie’s path through the draw could see him play either Miomir Kecmanovic or Denis Shapovalov in round two and potentially eighth seed and recent National Bank Open champion Ben Shelton in the third round. Waiting in the fourth round could be either Czech Jiri Lehecka or Cincinnati Open winner Arthur Fils.
Meanwhile, Jan Choinski has drawn Dutch star Botic van de Zandschulp in the first round and could face sixth seed Alex de Minaur in the second.
In the women’s singles, Katie Boulter has drawn American world No.143 Carol Young Suh Lee in the first round in what will be a first meeting between the two.
The winner could go on to face seventh seed and Wimbledon runner-up Karolina Muchova, who recently won the US Open mixed doubles tournament with Jakub Mensik.
There are six additional British players in the final round of qualifying today, including Francesca Jones, Harriet Dart, Heather Watson, Jacob Fearnley, Toby Samuel and Harry Wendelken.
The US Open main draw begins on Sunday 30 August and will be shown exclusively on Sky Sports and NOW TV.
