Aegon County Cup Race

The County Cup Race will recognise a County’s performance in all 7 of the County Cup Events. Points will be allocated after each event, starting with the 18U Event in March and will conclude with the Winter Event in November. The County with the most points across all Events will be recognised as the overall County Cup Race Champion for that year. In addition, recognition will also be made to the county making the biggest year on year improvement on their previous year's final position.

  • Points are awarded per County Cup Event (male and female events).
  • For the Summer, Winter and 18U County Cup Events counties will receive ‘initial’ base points according to the group they are in and then additional (‘group’) points according to their final group position.
  • The points for the 14U, 12U and 10U County Cup Events are cumulative based on their success at the group stage and the finals stage (if applicable)
  • 9U teams are allocated group points only.

How and when will the leaderboard be updated?

Within a week of each County Cup Event finishing, the relevant points for that Event will be added to each competing county and the leaderboard updated and published on the home page of the County Cup website.

What happens if the points are showing incorrectly on the leaderboard?

It is the responsibility of each county to check the leaderboard following the relevant County Cup Event to ensure the points showing for their county are correct. If they disagree with what is showing they must contact countycup@lta.org.uk to lodge an appeal. This must be done within a month of the completion of the relevant County Cup Event.

What happens if more than one county has the same number of points at the end of the year?

The county with the greatest number of County Cup Event wins across men’s / women’s / boys / girls will be declared the County Cup Champion for that year. Should the points still be equal, then it will be taken on the best performance in the Summer County Cup Event (men’s / women’s), followed by Winter County Cup Event (men’s / women’s) and so on.

How will the ‘County Cup Race Champion’s’ achievement be acknowledged?

The County Cup Champion for the year in question will be known following the Winter County Cup Event in November and will be officially announced in December.

Recognition will be made at a County and player level (ie) all players who have played for that county in the year in question will each receive a memento which will be presented at that county’s AGM.  In addition, the county will be presented with a perpetual trophy which will be presented to that county’s representative at the LTA AGM the year (NB: the trophy will be retained at The NTC).

From 2016, it was agreed that recognition would be made to the county making the biggest year on year improvement on their previous year’s final position. This is calculated based on the number of positions moved in the race from year to year (eg) a county improving from 25th place to 12th place year on year. The county is presented with a perpetual trophy which will be presented to that county’s representative at the LTA AGM the year (NB: the trophy will be retained by the LTA at The NTC).

In addition, both the County Cup Race Champion and the ‘Most Improved County’, will be able to nominate one player who has played for the respective county to receive a pair of Centre Court tickets for the 1st Friday of The Championships, Wimbledon and to receive an invitation to attend the LTA Cocktail Party (as long as they are not already attending in another capacity).

Will results in events organised by Seniors GB county towards a county’s record?

Currently there are no plans to include results from those events organised by Seniors GB

What happens if a county withdraws from an event?

Any county withdrawing from an Event will not be awarded any ‘base’ points or ‘group’ points

What happens if a county concedes any rubbers?

If a county concedes any rubbers and it affects the final positions of the group, stops a player from achieving 15 rubbers out of 15 (Summer County Cup only) or there is no justifiable reason not to play, that county will not receive any ‘group’ points for the County Cup Event in question.

Will points gained in the County Cup Race count towards my British Tennis ranking?

No. The County Cup Race is completely separate to a player’s British Tennis ranking and any ‘base’ or ‘group ‘ points as described above will not show on a player’s profile.
