Ons Jabeur dropped just three games as she cruised to victory over No.5 seed Sara Sorribes Tormo in the final at the Fuzion 100 Manchester Trophy at the Northern Lawn Tennis Club on Sunday.

The Tunisian has been in imperious form all week, not dropping a set on her way to the title, and was too powerful for her Spanish opponent, triumphing 6-2, 6-1 in 62 minutes.

“I'm really happy. This is my first title in around two years. I played really good tennis, didn't lose a set this week so hopefully I will continue playing this way,” said the world No. 180. “I played aggressive today, I didn't give her the chance to take over, I held my serve very good which helped me a lot and I was focused the whole match.”

The fact that Sorribes Tormo reached the final this week was remarkable given that she only played on grass for the first time last year.

“We only have the tournament in Mallorca so we don’t practice on grass very often,” explained the 21-year-old. “I’m happy with the tennis I played this week. I think the grass helps my game, my slice is not amazing but the grass helps me so I think that’s why I play well on this surface.”

Thailand’s Luksika Kumkhum and India’s Prarthana Thombare won the doubles final, defeating Stockport’s Naomi Broady and her partner Asia Muhammad (USA), the top seeds, 7-6(5), 6-3 to lift the trophy.

The No. 4 seeds had needed a match tiebreak to prevail in their three previous matches but recorded a more straightforward victory in Sunday’s first match on Centre Court.

“This is a really sweet moment especially with her [Kumkhum]. It's been so much fun getting into the finals we played three super tiebreaks this week and I enjoyed every bit of it,” said Thrombare. “I think at the start [of the final] it was very tight but it helps when you are having fun as a team. Winning the final is completely different, we play great tennis and are happy to get the win.”

The Fuzion 100 Trophy Series action now moves to Ilkley, where qualifying got underway yesterday and the main draw starts tomorrow.
