Sonay Kartal, Francesca Jones & Jodie Burrage awarded wild cards for HSBC Championships

• 1 MINUTE READ

British stars Sonay Kartal, Francesca Jones and Jodie Burrage have joined the line-up for this year’s women’s singles main draw at the HSBC Championships.

The HSBC Championships will be the first women’s tour-level event at The Queen’s Club for 52 years with some of the best names in the sport already set to kick-start a fortnight of tennis in West London – including Madison Keys, Emma Navarro and Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova.

Kartal, Jones and Burrage will join fellow British stars Katie Boulter and Emma Raducanu to lead the home challenge for silverware at The Queen’s Club.

British No.3 Kartal is one of the rising stars in the women’s game right now, having clinched her first WTA title in Monastir at the backend of last year before making the fourth round at Indian Wells. This year she’s made her debut and clinched wins for the Lexus GB Billie Jean King Cup team and at Roland Garros.

She's also shown her quality on the grass – coming through Wimbledon qualifying to reach the third round last year and having been a former semi-finalist in Ilkley as well.

24-year-old Jones will be one to watch at Queen’s, heading to West London in red hot form. The British star has won two ITF W75 trophies in the last three months and also reached the final round of qualifying at the French Open.

While she’s won all nine of her career titles on clay, Jones has shown herself to be a strong grass court player as well. Last season, she made the quarter-final of the WTA 250 event in Nottingham and will be hoping to push on once again this summer.

Burrage made her return to the grass this week at the Lexus Birmingham Open, where she picked up her first win on the surface since 2023.

Having missed the summer season with injury last year, Burrage is looking to make an impact this year. The former top 100 star reached the final of the WTA 250 in Nottingham two years ago and has a powerful, big-hitting game style to suit the surface.
