Billie Jean King Cup Finals 2025: Lexus GB team announced ahead of Finals in Shenzhen

• 3 MINUTE READ

Lexus Great Britain Billie Jean King Cup Team Captain, Anne Keothavong, has announced her team that will represent Great Britain at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen between 16-21 September.

Keothavong has selected a strong team for the showpiece event of the women’s team tennis calendar, including two players ranked inside the top 50 in Katie Boulter, Sonay Kartal, world No.89 Francesca Jones as well as former world No.85 Jodie Burrage.

British No.1 Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from this year's Finals in Shenzhen.

The Lexus GB team - who last year reached the semi-finals of the Billie Jean King Cup - secured their place in this year's Finals after beating Germany and the Netherlands in the Qualifiers back in April.

Katie Boulter

  • Age: 28
  • Ranking: 41
  • Billie Jean King Cup ties played: 18
  • Billie Jean King Cup record: 16-6

Boulter has been a mainstay in Keothavong's team over the last few years and is undoubtedly the team's most experienced Billie Jean King Cup player.

The British No.1 boasts an impressive win record in the competition and won two of her three matches during this year's qualifiers, including the decisive doubles rubber against the Netherlands to punch Great Britain's ticket to the Finals.

Meanwhile, on the WTA tour, it's been a tricky season for Boulter, but the three-time WTA titleholder has slowly begun to find her form, picking up a first title on clay at the WTA 125 Trophee Clarins event and reaching the quarter-finals in Nottingham.

The grass court season also saw Boulter join forces with Raducanu at the HSBC Championships for the doubles draw, where the pair enjoyed a run to the quarter-finals in just their first tournament together.

Sonay Kartal

  • Age: 23
  • Ranking: 45
  • Billie Jean King Cup ties played: 2
  • Billie Jean King Cup record: 2-0

As far as Billie Jean King Cup debuts go, it was a perfect start to Kartal’s career in the Lexus GB team back in April. The British No.2 made her debut against Jule Niemeier in the Brits qualifying tie against Germany, where she clinched a  6-4, 6-2 victory before making it two wins from two against Eva Vedder to etch another vital win on the board for her country.

Kartal has grown from strength to strength since then, securing her career best win by ranking against then world No.16 Daria Kasatkina at the HSBC Championships and clocking a fourth round appearance at Wimbledon - her best run at a Grand Slam to date.

Kartal will be hoping she can hit the ground running during the hard court swing as she looks to make another fast start to the

Francesca Jones

  • Age: 24
  • Ranking: 90
  • Billie Jean King Cup ties played: N/A
  • Billie Jean King Cup record: N/A

Jones has received the call up off the back of a standout year that's seen her claim four titles and made her breakthrough into the world's top 100.

In July, the 24-year-old added back-to-back WTA 125 titles to the W75 trophies she picked up in Prague and Vacaria - ultimately rewarding her with a place inside the top 100 for the first time in her career.

The British No.4 has also enjoyed wins on the big stage this year, clocking victories at the Lexus Nottingham Open, Lexus Eastbourne Open and recently fought through three rounds of qualifying to reach the main draw at the US Open for the first time.

Jodie Burrage

  • Age: 26
  • Ranking: 116
  • Billie Jean King Cup ties played: 2
  • Billie Jean King Cup record: 1-1

Burrage joins the team once again off the back of a strong performance last time out in The Hague. Contesting just her second Billie Jean King Cup match, the 26-year-old teamed up with Boulter to secure the decisive victory over Lamens and Demi Schuurs.

Burrage has been working her way back to fitness after struggling with multiple injuries last season. Since making her comeback at the end of last year, Burrage has gone on to claim a career-best title at the W100 Dubai and has picked up wins at the Australian Open, Lexus Birmingham Open and Lexus Eastbourne Open.

Burrage is also a skilled doubles player and has joined forces with teammate Kartal in recent months, with the pair clocking wins in Eastbourne and at Wimbledon
