Ranking Risers: Which British players rose up the rankings in August?
August welcomed the US hard court swing, with multiple Brits reaching new career high rankings, and lifting silverware as a result of their incredible runs across the ATP and WTA tours.
With that being said, let’s take a look at which players found themselves jumping up the rankings in August.
Boulter reaches new heights
For the third consecutive month in a row, British No.1 Katie Boulter has reached a career-high ranking. A seamless transition from the grass to the hard courts saw Boulter come through two rounds of qualifying to reach the second round at the National Bank Open, where she missed out to Coco Gauff.
Another solid month sees the 27-year-old end August ranked world No.61, meaning she's climbed an impressive 65 places since the beginning of June. However, that number could be set to increase with Boulter still going strong in the US Open main draw, where she's set to contest in the third round.
Evans, Peniston & Choinski rewarded for title success
August was certainly one to remember for British No.2 Dan Evans, who became an ATP 500 champion for the first time in his career. The Brit capped off a sensational run at the Mubdala Citi DC Open by defeating Tallon Giekspoor 7-5, 6-3 to lift his second, and the biggest title of his career to date. This victory saw the 33-year-old rise to a new career high ranking of world No.21.
Meanwhile, Jan Choinski clinched his second career ATP Challenger singles trophy at the Meerbusch Challenger in Germany in the middle of the month. Building on what has already been a hugely successful year for the British No.6 who ends the month at a new high of 126.
Fresh off the back of sealing the silverware at the Winnipeg Challenger – his biggest title to date - Ryan Peniston was rewarded with a 71-place ranking jump this month, leading him to conclude the month at No.201.
Rounding off a haul of career-highs this month, Liam Broady edged closer to the world’s top 100 as a result of reaching back-to-back semi-finals at the Cary 1 and Winnipeg Challenger events, and finishes the month at No.107.
Miyazaki back inside the world's top 200
Lily Miyazaki has continued to go from strength to strength, with the 27-year-old breaking back into the top 200.
August saw the Brit reach the semi-final of the W25 Roehampton event, where she just missed out on a spot in the final to second seed Arina Rodionova. Miyazaki wrapped up a sturdy month ranked world No.198, with that number set to increase in September off the back of a second round feature in the US Open main draw.
