The Welsh Government launched its anti racist Wales action plan on the back of consultation between 2020 and 2021, taking action to make Wales an anti-racist nation.

Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan.

Tennis Wales secured funding from the Welsh Government to deliver a tennis themed programme between 2022 and 2024, collaborating to deliver the outcomes of the anti-racist Wales action plan. We know that sport has an important role to play, and with our vision to open tennis up, we have been investing into several key areas across Wales;

Launching the LTA SERVES tennis programme into targeted ethnically diverse communities.

We’ve established partnerships with community groups and organisations and created 12 new LTA SERVES programmes across Swansea, Cardiff and Newport. These are fully funded programmes that operate year-round, providing tennis training, equipment and activity for young players to try tennis, primarily in communities that had not had the opportunity before. Our programmes are being delivered and supported by superb organisations such as EYST Wales, StreetGames, URDD, Grangetown Pavillion, Foundation4Sport, Women Connect 1st,South Riverside Community Development Centre, African Community Centre, Swansea Tennis Centre, the Chinese Association of Wales and many more.

Hosting one day LTA SERVES tennis festivals in local communities.

We’ve provided training, support and funding to deliver one day tennis themed festivals in the heart of the communities we’re working with. These are one-off opportunities for local families and young people to come along, meet new people, share their experiences, and enjoy learning new skills on and off the tennis court. These festivals have been held in partnership with organisations such as EYST Cardiff, Pembrokeshire & Wrexham, the Chinese Association of Wales and Grange Pavilion.

Delivering anti-racism training across Wales.

We’ve partnered with E-coach to provide training across Wales to people working and volunteering in tennis and padel. It’s important that we all understand racism in our communities, its impact, and importantly know what it means to be anti-racist in our everyday actions. By embedding this training as part of our offer to leaders, coaches, volunteers and officials, we hope that tennis continues to be a welcoming, enjoyable and inclusive experience for people in Wales.

Training & qualifications to diversify people coaching & volunteering.

We’ve recognised the need for more diversity in our workforce and have invested into providing qualifications and training for people from diverse communities in Wales. This has included on and off court training and mentoring, as well as formal qualifications for people to obtain their LTA Level 1 Assistant Coach qualification, and LTA Level 2 Instructor qualification.
