Indoor Community Tennis Projects

As part of the LTA facility strategy the LTA have used insight data and mapping technology to identify areas of demand for indoor tennis. The target locations have been established following a detailed demographic review of the UK market and existing indoor tennis centres with a proven sustainable business model.

The key metrics we have adopted in order to establish the base list are:

  • A target location must demonstrate a demand threshold of at least 12,500 adult players within a 20 minute drive time for urban areas and up to 30 minutes for rural areas
  • Potential catchments with more than three existing covered courts will be excluded.

This methodology has enabled us to identify 72 current target locations for new indoor tennis venues in England, 12 in Wales and 12 in Scotland. Please note indoor projects in Scotland will be funded through the Transforming Scottish Indoor Tennis fund which is a partnership between Sportscotland, Tennis Scotland, and the LTA. For more information about this funding program please visit the Tennis Scotland website.

The target locations will be reviewed on a regular basis to reflect (amongst other factors):

  • Emerging strategic housing developments that are approved and may alter the original demographic assumptions in a given target location
  • The expansion of existing tennis facilities in a given target location that may impact the original demographic assumptions
  • The development of new tennis and sports facilities, not included or known about in the original demographic review.

If you have a potential project within one of the identified strategic locations we would like to hear from you. Please fill out the expression of interest form.

Once we have this information then we will undertake a preliminarily assessment and then come back to you on the next steps to develop the scheme.
