Great British Tennis Weekend

Sign up your venue to the Great British Tennis Weekend now!

The Great British Tennis Weekend (GBTW) is an initiative to help tennis clubs and venues attract new people from the local community to come and try out your venue. The LTA coordinates a country-wide marketing campaign to raise awareness of GBTW, particularly targeting families to try tennis for free at a GBTW event. This alongside free marketing materials provided by the LTA to help your club promote the open day locally can siginificantly help you to raise awareness of your tennis club in the wider community.

Each year over a thousand venues sign-up to run a GBTW open day with over 55,000 people coming along to experience their local tennis club; but most importantly 17% of these attendees decide to join the club and play tennis more regularly as a result of their GBTW experience.

Reasons to run a Great British Tennis Weekend

  • Take advantage of a national marketing campaign to get more people playing tennis
  • Help raise awareness of your club in the local community
  • Free marketing resources to help promote your GBTW open day
  • Advice and guidance on how ot get the most out of your GBTW open day
  • Opportunities to attract new members, new people to your coaching programmes or encourage pay and play opportunites

Dates and sign-up

GBTW open days can take place at any point between May and the end of August, and venues can run as many GBTW open days as they wish. The national GBTW weekends are the 12th & 13th May and the 21st & 22nd July 2018 and the dates the LTA will focus most of our marketing and promotion. We therefore encourage venues to consider holding their open days on these dates to maximise support from the national campaign.

You can sign-up online by following these simple steps:

  1. Go to the ClubSpark website
  2. Login to your ClubSpark account or register if you don't have one
  3. Click Admin and go through to the Events Module
  4. Click Create new and select GBTW from the types of events

GBTW Resource Packs

As a GBTW venue, you will receive a promotional resource pack to help you plan, promote and run your event. This resource pack will include: a GBTW Organisers Guide and USB stick; directional signs; volunteer T-shirts; balloons; a personalised banner; personalised postcards, and personalised A4 posters.

The banner, postcards and posters will be personalised based upon the information provided during the ClubSpark GBTW sign-up process. If you are planning to publish more than one GBTW open day we would encourage you to publish them at the same time, as this will enable the promotional resources to include all of the dates of your open days.

Each venue will receive one full GBTW resource pack for the first open day published and a further further top-up resource pack (which does not include the banner, the T-shirts or the organisers guide) for each subsequent published event.

Important Information

  1. Venues will receive a free resource pack for their published GBTW open day with a “top-up” resource pack delivered for any subsequent open days published.
  2. Each open day must be published and remain published by the cut-off date and throughout the delivery process in order to receive your pack by your GBTW weekend.
  3. If an event needs to be edited then you must do so with the already published event and not through creating a new open day, otherwise a resource pack may not be sent.

Receiving your Resource Pack

It is important to note that there are fixed dates when the LTA distributes the GBTW resource packs, and its therefore essential that you publish your GBTW open day by the respectivecut-off dates to ensure that you receive your resource pack ahead of your event. The table below outlines the timeframe for when you need to register and publish your GBTW open day on ClubSpark and the date you can expect to receive your pack.

You will not be sent a resource pack if you registered your open day too late to receive your pack in time for your event.

Date event published on ClubSpark* Resource pack received at venue by
1 February - 28 February 2018 15 March 2018
1 March - 2 April 2018 17 April 2018

30 April 2018

16 April - 30 April 2018 16 May 2018
1 May - 31 May 2018 15 June 2018
1 June - 1 July 2018 13 July 2018

*Date you enter details on ClubSpark, not the date of your open day.

Example: Venue X is planning to hold a GBTW Open Day on Saturday 21st July 2018.  In order for Venue X to receive their resource pack in time, the latest date that they could publish their event on ClubSpark is the 1st July 2018. If Venue X wished to have more time to use their promotional resources ahead of their open day, they could publish their event on ClubSpark earlier in the year.

In order to receive a pack, you will need to publish your event on Club Spark before 1 July. Any venue that publishes an after July 1 will not receive a pack, but is welcome to still run their event.

Additional marketing resources

If your venue would like to order additional GBTW promotional resources, this can be done through My Tennis Toolkit.  If you have missed the delivery deadlines outlined above then My Tennis Toolkit might help you access resources in time for your event (although it isn’t free).  If you would like additional materials or different personalisation of your resources, then My Tennis Toolkit can help you achieve this.
