Peniston & Choinski win ATP Challenger singles titles

Ryan Peniston and Jan Choinski both clinched singles titles on the ATP Challenger Tour in Greece and Spain last week.

29-year-old Peniston lifted the Hersonissos Challenger trophy to mark his best result of the season so far.

After winning a three set battle in the opening round to Dimitris Sakellaridis, Peniston went on to reach the final without dropping a set – improving his performances round after round.

In the final, the former Queen’s Club quarter-finalist defeated Belgium’s Kimmer Coppejans 6-3, 7-5 to seal the title and jump 30 places in the rankings to world No.194.

Peniston is now one of 10 British players inside the ATP top 200 – the most since 1976.

Meanwhile, Choinski bagged his fourth ATP Challenger title of the season in Valencia, with another impressive week on the clay.

Choinski won four of his five matches over three sets, finishing with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Luka Mikrut of Croatia in the final.

The 29-year-old has now won seven titles at Challenger-level throughout his career and is currently enjoying his best season to date. He’s now up to world No.134 in the world rankings.

In other standout results, British No.1 Olivia Nicholls and Slovakian partner Tereza Mihalikova reached the semi-finals of the Wuhan Open.

The duo lost out to Storm Hunter and Katerina Siniakova 6-3, 6-0 in the final four – their second WTA 1000 semi-final of the season.

Gill took home the M25 Santa Margherita di Pula title for the second time in his career – defeating Poland’s Daniel Michalski 7-6(5), 7-5 in the final.

The 23-year-old Brit enjoyed a fantastic run to the title, sealing five victories without dropping a set, as he stormed to a second ITF trophy since the beginning of September.

Broady is another player in strong form at the moment having clinched a second successive title at the M15+H Rodez in France.

The former top 100 star beat four French players on his way to the title, finishing with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Arthur Nagel in the final.

Broady has made finals in his last three tournaments, also lifting the trophy at the M15 Budapest two weeks ago.
