Italian Open 2025: Draws announced for Brits with Jack Draper in the same half as Carlos Alcaraz & Alexander Zverev

• 2 MINUTE READ

The Italian Open gets underway this week with the world’s best tennis players competing in the final ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 event on clay before Roland Garros.

With action set to start on Tuesday 6 May, the draws have been announced for the British singles hopefuls in Rome.

Read ore about the draws and who the Brits could face through the tournament.

Italian Open 2025 first round draw

  • Katie Boulter (GBR) vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
  • Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Qualifier
  • Sonay Kartal (GBR) vs Kimberley Birrell (AUS)
  • Jack Draper (GBR) vs BYE
  • Jacob Fearnley (GBR) vs Fabio Fognini (ITA)

Boulter, Raducanu & Kartal bid for early success in Rome

British No.1 Katie Boulter has been drawn against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the opening round off the back of her first WTA 1000 victory on clay in Madrid last week.

Boulter would face former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin in the second round if she can win her opener before a potential meeting with world No.1 and last week’s Mutua Madrid Open champion Aryna Sabalenka in the third round.

Emma Raducanu will have to wait to find out who she’ll play in the first round having been drawn against a qualifier.

In the second round she could face 21st seed Ekaterina Alexandrova for the third time already this year with one win apiece. Her route through the draw could see her play 15th seed Amanda Anisimova and then Coco Gauff in the round of 16.

Sonay Kartal is set to play world No.60 Kimberley Birrell in round one, with 30th seed Linda Noskova awaiting the winner in the second round. If she were to make her second WTA 1000 third round appearance, the young Briton could play in-form star Mirra Andreeva.

Draper & Fearnley handed tough draws

New world No.5 Jack Draper heads to the Italian Open as one of the favourites, having made his first clay court final at the Madrid Open.

The fifth seed has a bye in the first round and will face either Yunchaokete Bu or Luciano Darderi in the second round and then potentially Sebastian Baez in the third round.

Draper has a challenging path through the draw if he is to replicate his result in Madrid. Based on seeding, he would have to play Holder Rune in round four, reigning Roland Garros champion Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals and second seed Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals.

British No.2 Jacob Fearnley will have to battle tough opponents and the home crowd through the opening rounds. The 23-year-old has been drawn against Italy’s Fabio Fognini in the first round, before a potential second round clash with former Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini.

If the British star makes the third round, on paper he would potentially come up against Casper Ruud off the back of his first ATP Masters 1000 title in Madrid.

Harriet Dart, Cam Norrie and Billy Harris are all in qualifying action on Monday and Tuesday.
