Harry Wendelken leads British title charge as international tennis returns to Glasgow

Harry Wendelken gave the home crowd a British title to celebrate as international tennis returned to Glasgow's Scotstoun Tennis Centre at the Lexus British Pro Series Glasgow.
The event, hosted by Tennis Scotland and the LTA, saw a women’s ITF W75 event take place alongside a men’s M25 tournament. The women’s event the joint-highest level tennis event to place in Scotland this year, alongside an ATP Challenger 75 tournament held in February.
Wendelken has enjoyed the best season of his career in 2025 including a maiden ATP Challenger singles title in Greece last month, and he continued his hot streak with a title run that included the defeats of three seeded players.
After taking down top seed Clement Chidekh in the quarter-finals and sixth seed Alastair Gray in the semis, Wendelken, himself the fifth seed, faced Dutch eighth seed Jelle Sels for the title.
The young Brit from Cambridge went on to claim his third title of the season with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 win over the Dutchman.
Speaking after his win, Wendelken said, “This week I was able to compose myself and keep my emotions inside which has really helped me. I’ve been working really hard with my coach and psychologist on the mental side which has helped me a lot. I’ve been coming here for a few years and always enjoy it, there’s always a great crowd and it’s really well organised.”
In the women’s singles, Ukraine’s Daria Snigur, the 2023 women’s singles champion in Glasgow, sealed the title in Scotstoun.
The third seed dominated throughout the week, dropping just one set, and made similarly short work of Switzerland’s Susan Bandecchi in Sunday’s final, needing just over an hour to reclaim her title with a 6-4, 6-3 win.
Snigur said post-win of the week, “It’s always difficult playing against a friend like Susan, but I’m very happy to win. It’s the second time I’ve won this tournament, so I love Scotland and Glasgow and want to say thank you to everyone who watched the match today.”
In the doubles, three Brits enjoyed strong weeks but had to settle for runners-up trophies. In the women’s doubles, Freya Christie and Lily Miyazaki lost out to the Swiss-American pair of Celine Naef and Clervie Ngounoue 6-0, 6-4.
In the men’s doubles, Joe Tyler and American partner Phillip Jordan lost out to Dutch No.1 seeds Jarno Jans and Niels Visker.

International tournaments such as the Lexus British Pro Series Glasgow are part of the LTA’s Performance Competitions Calendar (PCC) which provides significantly enhanced opportunities for British players at each age and stage of the performance player pathway on home soil. The calendar is designed to provide comprehensive opportunities for British players to play, earn ranking points and win prize money at home, throughout the year.
The event at Scotstoun was the final international tennis event of 2025 to be held in Britain. The 2026 LTA Performance Competitions Calendar, detailing international tennis events being held across the country next year, will be announced in December.
