Fery wins maiden ATP Challenger title

Last week saw Britain’s Arthur Fery reach a new milestone after the 23-year-old captured a career-first ATP Challenger title in Barranquilla.

It was a standout campaign for Fery, who cruised through to the final without dropping a set in any of his matches against Darian King, Miguel Tobon, Cannon Kinglsey and Juan Pablo Ficovich.

Fery - who is supported by the Pro Scholarship Programme presented by Lexus - was due to face former world No.17 Bernard Tomic in the final, but the Australian withdrew from the final, ultimately giving a walkover to the Briton.

This rounds off a strong couple of months for Fery, who also reached the quarter-finals of the ATP Challenger event in Bloomfield Hills and recorded his first Grand Slam main draw victory at Wimbledon last month where he upset 20th seed Alexei Popyrin.

He will now move up to world No.237 - just eight places off his career-best ranking of No.229.

Elsewhere, Stuart Parker also claimed his first title on the ATP Challenger Tour after teaming up with Italy’s Filippo Moroni to lift the trophy in Hersonissos.

The duo defeated the all-British pairing of Scott Duncan and Tom Hands in straight sets to book their spot in the semi-finals where they beat David Poljak and Aoran Wang 6-3, 5-7, 10-7.

In their final clash against French duo Dan Added and Arthur Reymond, Parker and Moroni found a decisive break in each set to seal a 6-4, 6-4 victory and etch their names on the silverware.

This win marks Parker’s sixth doubles title of his career and first since 2023.

Home favourites claim titles in Aldershot

The ITF Tour welcomed the return of tennis in Aldershot and the men and women competed at a combined M25 and W35 event.

It was a successful tournament for the home favourites, with Britain’s Paul Jubb lifting the singles title and Lui Maxted and Finn Murgett prevailing in the doubles.

Jubb had to fight past four fellow Brits on his way to setting up a final meeting against Toby Samuel, where he edged a tight match 7-6(4), 7-5 to clinch his third ITF title of the season so far.

In the doubles, fourth seeds Maxted and Murgett came out on top in a battle of the Brits against James MacKinlay and Connor Thomson, winning 6-4, 7-6(6).

Six Brits claim silverware on ITF Tour

From Aldershot to the rest of the world - six Brits swept up titles at M15 tournaments last week.

Starting off in the United States, it was a second ITF title of the year for Blu Baker who added the M15 Huntsville trophy to the crown he picked up at Vero Beach back in April.

The 23-year-old fought through a trio of three-set battles to reach the final where he battled back from a set down to beat Serbia’s Aleksa Ciric 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-4 and capture the third professional title of his career.

In Finland, Oscar Weightman stormed to victory at the M15 Turku event to clinch his first singles title in three years. The Briton dispatched France’s Louis Larue in the semi-final before fighting through a tough battle against Turkey’s Mert Alkaya to seal a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win.

Meanwhile, all-British duo Emile Hudd and Ben Jones claimed the doubles crown in Turku. After beating three Finnish pairings on their way to the final, Hudd and Jones capped off a dominant week with a 7-6(1), 6-7(4), 10-7 win over Britain’s Finn Bass and American Oren Vasser.

The victory in Turku marked Jones’ sixth doubles title of the year, and Hudd’s first.

In Romania, Jeremy Gschwendtner teamed up with Italy’s Alessandro Spadola to win the M15 Targu Jiu title after the pair ousted Francesco Ferrari and Federico Valle 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 in the final, while James Hopper lifted his second title of the season at the M15 Pirot alongside Aardarsh Tripathi.

The British, American pair beat Evan Burnett and Theodore Dean 6-4, 3-6, 13-11 in the final.

Cox and Bishop crowned champions in Lithuania

Oliver Cox retained the quad singles title at the Lithuanian Open as the first of two back-to-back ITF Futures wheelchair tournaments in Vilnius came to an end over the weekend, with Ruby Bishop also adding her third Lithuanian Open women’s doubles title in four years.

Cox produced an excellent comeback to beat Australian top seed Finn Broadbent 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-2 in the quad singles final, having defeated Latvia’s Fricis Gustavs Alliks 6-0, 6-0 in the semi-finals on his way to winning the fourth singles title of his career.

Meanwhile, it was the runners-up trophy for Cox and Israel’s Royal Abargil in the quad doubles after losing out 6-3, 6-2 to Broadbent and Israel’s Elay Chayot.

Bishop’s third Lithuanian Open doubles title since 2022 brought her a first title partnering Germany’s Katharina Kruger. Top seeds Bishop and Kruger defeated Bulgaria’s Zoya Chavdarova and Diana Nikiforova of Latvia 6-1, 6-2 in their final, having also won their semi-final 6-0, 6-0.

Former world No.6 Kruger was the only player to thwart Bishop’s hopes of a hat-trick of Lithuanian Open singles titles after winning this year’s 6-2, 6-3, with Bishop having eased through her quarter-finals and semi-final matches against Agneska Tolocko and Chavdarova in straight sets.

Joshua Johns and his Belgian partner Alexander Lantermaan also lived up to their billing second seeds to reach the men’s doubles final before finishing runners-up to top seeds Tomoya Tachi and Maximillian Taucher.

Bishop, Cox and Johns are among the Brits staying in Lithuania this week, where the title hunt resumes at the Vilnius Open.
