Toby Samuel breaks into ATP top 100 for the first time in his career

Toby Samuel has become the latest British star to break into the ATP top 100 after rising to a new career-high ranking of world No.95.
secured his first Grand Slam main draw win at the US Open, with a win over Czech star Tomas Machac - marking his third win over a top 100 player this season.
Samuel is now one of five British men currently ranked inside the world’s top 100, joining British No.1 Arthur Fery, Cam Norrie, Jan Choinski and Jacob Fearnley.
Speaking on this achievement and his journey to this point, Samuel said, "I always had a good amount of belief because I was top at college for the last few years. I got to 400 and then I was injured, so that's obviously one of the reasons why my ranking was that low.
"I knew that I had the level to jump up and play here, but obviously not this fast.
I've always believed in myself and obviously now it's paid off. I'm here now.
Samuel's rise through the ATP rankings has been one of the most impressive breakthroughs in British tennis in recent years.
In January 2025, the Brit was ranked world No. 1871. Since then, he's captured five ATP Challenger titles, come through qualifying to reach the main draws at both Roland Garros and the US Open, and reached his maiden ATP Tour semi-final at the Lexus Eastbourne Open in June.
The Brit came within a few points of beating world No.18 Jakub Mensik in a five-set thriller on his Wimbledon debut.
He has also recorded three wins over top 100 players this year, including Machac, Thiago Agustin Tirante and Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
Prior to turning professional, he attended the University of South Carolina where he was named ITA All-American in singles in 2023 and 2024. In 2022, he and doubles partner Connor Thomson captured the men’s doubles title at the ITA All-American Championships.
His breakthrough season has also been recognised with selection for the Lexus Great Britain Davis Cup team ahead of their upcoming second round qualifying tie against Ecuador at London's Copper Box Arena on 19-20 September. Should he play, it will mark Samuel's Davis Cup debut.
