US Open 2026: Alfie Hewett & Gordon Reid set for wheelchair doubles final

Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid booked their place in a 33rd Grand Slam wheelchair doubles final after beating Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez and Tokito Oda of Japan.
Hewett and Reid avenged their loss to Fernandez and Oda in last year’s final in New York, edging out the defending champions 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 in a rematch of this year’s final at The Championships, Wimbledon, where Hewett and Reid claimed their 25th Grand Slam doubles title together.
The top seeds will now play Spain’s Martin de la Puente and Ruben Spaargaren of the Netherlands in a rematch of the 2025 Wimbledon final.
Meanwhile, Hewett will face Fernandez once again in Friday’s men’s singles semi-finals after defeating the USA Casey Ratzlaff 6-2, 6-0.
The win means Hewett maintains his 100% record of reaching the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows, coming through his opening two matches for the loss of just two games in each match.
Reid’s hopes of joining Hewett in the singles semis-finals came to an end against world No.1 and defending champion Oda, the Japanese top seed advancing to the last four 6-1, 6-0.
In the quad draw, Andy Lapthorne’s newest doubles partnership with South Africa’s Leon Els looked set for a place in the US Open quad doubles final for a set and a half of their semi-final against second seeds Sam Schroder and Jin Woodman. However, the Dutch-Australian duo eventually fought back to progress 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.
While Hewett and Reid will bid for their sixth US Open doubles title on Friday, French Open junior champion Matthew Knoesen is one match away from adding both the US Open boys’ singles and doubles title to his list of accolades in his first season in Junior Grand Slam competition, after the British top seed beat the USA’s Matthew Nadauld 6-0, 7-5 in Thursday’s semi-final in New York, going on to play Australia’s Sonny Rennison for the title.
Nadauld and Rennison were both on the opposite side of the net to Knoesen in the boys’ doubles semis as the Brit and Japan’s Hitofumi Inoue earned a 6-3, 7-6(4) to book a place in Friday’s final.
Compatriot Will Barton and Lorenzo Politano of Italy await, after defeating Jeremy Che and Yun Kloosterman 6-3, 6-3, guaranteeing a British winner in the boys doubles for the fourth time in the last five years.
Meanwhile, Australian Open girls’ doubles champion Lucy Foyster‘s US Open debut ended against the top seeds in both the girls’ singles and doubles semi-finals.
