Ecuador Davis Cup history
Ecuador first competed at the Davis Cup in 1961 and has reached the World Group or Finals (the highest level of the competition) eight times.
Their best Davis Cup result came with a quarter-final finish in 1985 – a result they will be aiming to replicate with a win over Great Britain.
They last reached the Finals in 2021, where they lost to Spain and Russia in the round-robin Group Stage.
Ecuador 2026 Davis Cup results
Ecuador caused the upset of the Davis Cup Qualifiers first round, knocking out Australia 3-1.
A victory for both singles players, Andres Andrade and Alvaro Guillen Meza, as well as a doubles victory for Gonzalo Escobar and Diego Hidalgo, earned the team a place in the second round.
They are now the lowest-ranked team left in the tournament.

- Age: 27

Ecuador’s top-ranked singles player is Andres Andrade, who has a career-high ranking of world No.203.
The 27-year-old has won five singles titles in his career, three of which came last year in World Tennis $25k tournaments in Pensacola, Barueri and Salvador.
This season, Andrade has been a key figure on the ATP Challenger Tour, reaching three semi-finals and two quarter-finals in 2026 so far.
Andrade played a key part in Ecuador’s shock win over Australia earlier this season with a comeback win over former world No.46 James Duckworth 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
He also won the decisive fifth rubber against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their World Group I match last September to secure Ecuador’s place in the 2026 Qualifiers.
Alvaro Guillen Meza

Meza is a three-time ATP Challenger title-winner – claiming trophies in Lima (2023), Ibague (2024) and Santos (2025).
His victory in Santos last year saw the Ecuadorian rise inside the world’s top 200 for the first time in his career.
The 23-year-old has played 12 professional singles finals across the ATP Challenger and World Tennis Tours, winning seven tournaments in his career so far.
Like Andrade, Meza was instrumental in both of Ecuador’s previous wins against Bosnia and Herzegovina in last year’s World Group and Australia in the Qualifiers first round. He has won his last three singles matches in Davis Cup competition, including victory over former Grand Slam doubles champion Rinky Hijikata.
Angel Veliz

At just 18, Veliz is one of the rising stars in Ecuadorian tennis. Veliz has started his journey on the professional tennis circuit this year, playing just three tournaments so far – making the semi-final of the M15 Quito and first rounds in two other events.
As a junior, Veliz won four singles and three doubles titles, and reached a career-high world No.93 in the World Tennis junior rankings.
Veliz is in the Ecuador Davis Cup team for the first time and will be hoping to make a debut against Great Britain.
Diego Hidalgo

One of Ecuador’s two top-100 doubles stars, Hidalgo will join Escobar to take on Great Britain at the Copper Box Arena.
Hidalgo has won 34 doubles titles in his career but is still searching for a first ATP Tour trophy, losing his only previous final at the Mallorca Championships in 2024 to Britain’s Julian Cash and American Robert Galloway.
The 33-year-old has played in the Davis Cup every year since 2018 and played a key role in reaching the 2021 Finals, this year’s Qualifiers, and defeating Australia in February.
Gonzalo Escobar

A former ATP doubles world No.38, Escobar is one of the most experienced members of the Ecuadorian Davis Cup team.
He’s won six ATP doubles titles in his career and reached a total of 14 finals – all coming alongside Uruguayan Ariel Behar and Kazakhstan’s Aleksandr Nedovyesov. He’s also won 20 ATP Challenger doubles titles across his career.
Escobar made his Davis Cup debut in 2013 and was part of the team that went to the Finals in 2021, losing two close three-set doubles matches against Spain and Russia.
Combining with Hidalgo, Escobar clinched an upset win against two former major winners, Hijikata and Jordan Thompson, in their tie against Australia.
