Davis Cup 2026: Great Britain reach Final 8 with victory over Ecuador

The Lexus Great Britain Davis Cup team are through to the 2026 Final 8 after a convincing 4-0 victory over Ecuador at London’s Copper Box Arena.
Great Britain are now through to the Davis Cup Final 8 for the first time since 2023. Taking place from 24-29 November in Bologna, Italy, the Final 8 brings together the world's top nations in a week-long tournament for the Davis Cup title.
They will join Austria, Canada, Czechia, Germany, Italy, Korea Rep., and either Chile or Spain in the 2026 Final 8.
In the first Davis Cup tie in London for 10 years, Leon Smith's side put on an impressive display, dropping just one set to an Ecuador side that knocked out Australia in the previous round.
Singles victories on day one for Toby Samuel and Arthur Fery were followed up with a doubles win for Henry Patten and Neal Skupski to wrap up the tie before Harry Wendelken closed the Brits out.
Great Britain have now won all eight matches played across their two Qualifier ties against Norway and Ecuador.
"I'm absolutely delighted for the guys," said GB Davis Cup Captain and LTA Head of Men's Tennis Leon Smith. "It's been quite a few years since we've featured in the Final 8.
"There's obviously a lot of tennis to be played between now and then, but it's really a great thing to look forward to. I'm really pleased how each of the players has gone about things in different ways.
"There are some really, really good teams (in the Final 8), but we're also a really good team. We've got a lot of belief. We've got a good group to choose from.
"We've got the indoor swing to come up. All the guys will know, it's over to them now who performs the best, between now and then, will give themselves the best opportunity. I presume everyone's going to want to play. We'll have a chance, whoever we play."

With the news on Friday that Cam Norrie would be withdrawing from the Great Britain team with an injury, Samuel was called on to open up the tie, marking his first appearance in the competition.
24-year-old Samuel got the Brits off to a winning start, coming back from a set down to defeat Andres Andrade 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 on his Davis Cup debut.
British No.1 Fery closed out the opening day with an impressive 7-5, 6-0 victory over Alvaro Guillen Meza to give the Brits a healthy 2-0 lead going into Sunday. Fery remains undefeated in his first two appearances for the GB Davis Cup team.
The British doubles team of Patten and Skupski got the job done early on Sunday to punch their ticket into the Finals.
World No.1 Patten and world No.3 Skupski defeated experienced doubles team Gonzalo Escobar and Diego Hidalgo 6-3, 6-4 to put the tie to bed.
With victory wrapped up, 24-year-old Wendelken came in for Britain’s second debut of the weekend, going up against teenager Angel Veliz.
Like Samuel, Wendelken made a winning start to his Davis Cup career, seeing off Veliz 6-2, 6-3.
