Great Britain vs Poland preview

Great Britain will bid to return to the 2026 Davis Cup Qualifier as they prepare to take on Poland at the Polsat Puls Arena in Gdynia.

The Brits will arrive at the tie with a 7-1 advantage in their head-to-head against Poland, with their last meeting coming in 2009.

While British No.1 Jack Draper has been forced to sit out of this tie due to injury, British No.2 Norrie will arrive as the highest ranked member of Smith’s team.

It’s safe to say the 30-year-old has saved his best tennis for the biggest stages this season and he’ll look to continue that heading into the Davis Cup tie against Poland.

Norrie is back in the team for the first time since the 2023 Finals where he suffered a straight set defeat against Novak Djokovic to end the Brits’ hopes of reaching the semi-finals. However, with the five-time ATP titlist reaching his peak in perfect time, Norrie will be a vital player in the upcoming tie as he looks to spearhead his nation back to Davis Cup victory.

Meanwhile, Fearnley is back in the team following a memorable debut back in February which saw him seal a maiden victory for the Lexus GB team against former top five player Kei Nishikori.

Like Norrie, the British No.3 has already enjoyed some wins on the big stage this year, having reached the third round at the Australian Open and Roland Garros and clinched his first win on his US Open main draw debut. With the 24-year-old getting back to his best, he'll be looking to pick up where he left off in the upcoming Davis Cup tie.

The team will also welcome three debutants this time out, including doubles world No.1 Glasspool and No.2 Cash who received the call up off the back off a dominant year on the ATP tour.

The pair have hauled six title so far this season including their maiden Grand Slam title at Wimbledon and the National Bank Open crown at the beginning of the American hard court swing.

Having played alongside each other week in, week out on the ATP tour, Cash and Glasspool could arrive in Poland with the advantage as the only established doubles pairing in the tie.

Meanwhile, Fery has also received his first call up following an impressive run of form that has seen him capture his maiden ATP Challenger Tour singles title at the Barranquilla Challenger.

The Brits may have a commanding lead in the head-to-head but Poland aren't to be underestimated, despite being without their highest ranked player Hubert Hurkacz this time around.

22-year-old Maks Kasnikowski will instead aim to lead his nation to the 2026 Qualifiers. The world No.430 has picked up two ATP Challenger titles and five ITF crowns during his career. Meanwhile Poland's No.2 Olaf Pieczkowski has claimed two M15 trophies this season already.

However, Poland's highest ranked player comes in the form of doubles specialist Jan Zielinski, who could be a vital weapon in Mariusz Fyrstenberg's team. The 28-year-old is a former top 10 doubles player, has clinched five ATP doubles and two mixed doubles Grand Slams throughout his career, including the 2024 Australian Open and Wimbledon titles with Su-Wei Hsieh.

The doubles world No.46 will arrive in Poland having reached the third round of the US Open, quarter-finals at the Wistn-Salem Open and quarter-finals in Umag. Zielinski could be set to team up with Karol Drzewiecki - who recently reached the third round of the US Open alongside Britain's Marcus Willis.
