Who won April Player of the Month?
With voting now closed on our first LTA Player of the Month vote of the season, it’s tome to reveal the winners from Men’s, Women’s, Doubles and Wheelchair categories.
All of the winners were all voted for by you, our LTA Advantage members.
Without further ado, here are your April Players of the Month:
Men’s: Dan Evans
The British No.2’s return to the clay in April was met with his best results of the season so far, as Evans geared up towards the French Open in May.
Starting in Marrakech, Evans marked the start of the month with wins over Alexei Popyrin, Andrea Vavassori and Roberto Carballes Baena en route to his first semi-final of the season.
He then backed this up with another semi-final and arguably his best week of 2023 to date at the ATP 500 in Barcelona. In the third round he claimed a brilliant win over world No.11 Karen Khachanov and backed it but by defeating world No.32 Francisco Cerundolo from a set down in the quarter-finals.
Women’s: Jodie Burrage
Burrage’s performances in April saw her reach a new career high at world No.108 and became British No.2 for the first time in her career.
Her rise up the rankings came off the back of winning the biggest title of her career at the W60 Croissy-Beaubourg. The 23-year-old Brit came from a set down in the quarters, semis and the final to lift the trophy – finishing with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 win over Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti in the final.
She also reached the final of the women’s doubles draw in Croissy-Beaubourg with Turkey’s Berfu Cengiz.
Doubles: Henry Patten & Julian Cash
Last year’s record-breaking doubles duo have gone from strength-to-strength this year, wracking up their best results of the year in April.
Both brits climbed to new career-highs (Patten at world No.53 and Cash at world No.51) off the back of finishing runners-up at the ATP 250 US Clay Court Championships and then winning their 11th ATP Challenger title together at the Sarasota Open.
With the French Open on the horizon and the grass court season – where they achieved some of the biggest results last year – this won’t be the last you hear from this team in 2023.
Wheelchair: Lucy Shuker
The British No.1 made her mark this month both in the singles and doubles game over in the States.
Shuker captured her first singles title of the season at the ITF 3 UH Cougar Open – finishing with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win over USA’s Emmy Kaiser.
Earlier in the month she also impressed in Indian Wells – not only making the semi-finals of the singles, but finishing runner-up in the doubles alongside Chile’s Macarena Cabrillana.
