Henry Patten and Finnish partner Harri Heliovaara cemented their place as the in-form doubles team on the ATP Tour, clinching their second title in as many weeks at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
Patten and Heliovaara extended their unbeaten run to eight matches with a 7-5, 7-5 final win over Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic in the Dubai final.
The duo have now won 11 ATP titles together since joining forces in 2023, including two Grand Slams at Wimbledon and the Australian Open.
Patten and Heliovaara have been on an almost unstoppable run since October last year. They have now won five of their last six tournaments – lifting the Rolex Paris Masters, Nitto ATP Finals, Adelaide International, Qatar Open and the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships titles.
Henry Patten & Harri Heliovaara’s path to the Dubai title
- Final: won vs Marcelo Arevalo (SAL) & Mate Pavic (CRO) (2) 7-5, 7-5
- Semi-final: won vs Julian Cash (GBR) & Lloyd Glasspool (GBR) (1) 6-4, 7-6(4)
- Quarter-final: won vs Alexander Bublik (KAZ) & Juncheng Shang (CHN) W/O
- First round: won vs Yuri Bhamri (IND) & Andre Goransson (SWE) 6-1, 6-4
The British, Finnish team came into the final high on confidence after their second win in two weeks over last year’s No.1 ranked duo, Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool.
Awaiting them in the final were 2024 Roland Garros champions Arevalo and Pavic, who they held a 2-2 head-to-head record against.
A tight opening set in the final saw just one break point in the first 11 games, but Patten and Heliovaara struck when the opportunity came their way with the first set point of the match against their opponents’ serve.
The two-time Grand Slam champions threatened to run away with the match after taking a 3-1 lead in the second set but were immediately pulled back.
Both sides looked to be heading for a tie-break but once again Arevalo and Pavic failed to hold their nerve, serving to stay in it at 6-5.
Patten and Heliovaara set up three match points at 0-40, before wrapping up another impressive title run in an hour and 27 minutes.
They will now go into Indian Wells and Miami as the team to beat, with the duo searching for their first piece of silverware across the sunshine swing.
