James MacKinlay lifts title in Istanbul, British champions in Roehampton & Dahnon Ward wins an all-Brit wheelchair tennis final

MacKinlay claims Istanbul Challenger
Britain’s James MacKinlay won his first doubles title of the season and second career ATP Challenger Tour trophy in Istanbul, Turkey over the weekend.
25-year-old MacKinlay teamed up with Turkey’s Arda Azkara for only the second time, having reached the semi-final in Samsun the week prior.
Top seeds MacKinlay and Azkara reached the final without dropping a set before finishing with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sergey Betov and Ilia Simakin to lift the title.
Meanwhile, Finn Bass also reached an ATP Challenger final in Hagen, Germany, ending as the runner-up with partner Jarno Jans.
Bass and Jans had a match point in the deciding match tie-break but eventually lost 6-4, 3-6, 13-11 to Admir Kalender and Nino Serdarusic.
Rajecki & Broom seal titles in Roehampton
The Lexus British Pro Series headed to the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton last week, with British winners in three of the four draws.
The W35 singles event was won by Amelia Rajecki, who came through an all-British final against Ella McDonald 6-0, 6-2 in just 54 minutes.
Charles Broom was crowned the men’s singles champion in the M25 tournament – beating last week’s winner in Aldershot, Oliver Tarvet, 6-3, 6-2.
It marks a 10th career singles title for the 28-year-old Brit and his second of the season so far.
In the women’s doubles, second seeds Emily Appleton and McDonald took home the title with a 7-5, 7-6(2) victory against Britain’s Brooke Black and Kenya’s Angella Okutoyi.
Ward wins biggest career title
Dahnon Ward earned the biggest wheelchair singles title of his career to date as three of Britain’s top five players contested the men’s singles and doubles finals at the WC175 s Versicherung Austria Open.
Current British No.5 Ward went into the Austrian Open unseeded, but beat four seeded players in straight sets, including the top three seeds, on his way to victory.
Jiri Fiala of the Czech Republic, Dutch second seed Robin Groenewoud, eighth seed Nicolas Charrier of France and Australian third seed Anderson Parker all fell to Ward before the Derbyshire player came up against British No.3 and top seed Ben Bartram in the title decider.
Contesting their first singles final as seniors and their first singles final since the 2022 US Open boys’ singles title decider, Ward came from 5-3 down in the second set to prevail 7-5, 6-2 and secure his first singles win over Bartram in 14 matches.
Elsewhere, Bartram and singles quarter-finalist Andrew Penney lived up to their No.1 seeding in the men’s doubles as the all-Brit duo reached their third final of 2026 together. But, with Ward and Parker losing out in the semi-finals to second seeds Frederic Cattaneo and Alwande Sikhosana, the French-South African duo also denied Bartram and Penney in the final, taking the doubles title 6-3, 6-4.
