Burrage and Christie claim Lexus British Pro Series Aldershot doubles title

Jodie Burrage and Freya Christie claimed their first trophy as a pair since October 2024 at the Lexus British Pro Series Aldershot, after winning the women’s doubles title.
After their last title in Glasgow almost two years ago, Burrage and Christie looked to be on fine form throughout the week, as they reached Friday’s final without dropping a set. There they faced fellow Brits Savannah Dada-Mascoll, who won the women’s doubles title in Aldershot a fortnight before, and 2026 LTA 16U and 18U national singles champion Daniella Britton, playing her first professional World Tennis Tour final.
In a topsy-turvy first set that saw multiple breaks of serve for both pairs, a tiebreak was needed to separate the two, which Dada-Mascoll and Britton claimed to take the lead. An early break for Dada-Mascoll and Britton in the second set looked to have them in prime position to go on and seal the title, but Burrage and Christie showed the experience that had seen them claim 37 doubles titles between them, and after levelling the scores at 3-3, three further games on the bounce saw Burrage and Christie level the tie and take it to a championship tiebreak. The deciding tiebreak was a microcosm of the match, with multiple minibreaks for both pairs, and after Burrage and Christie pulled away, Dada-Mascoll and Britton managed to save four match points to reel them in. The fifth, however, was one point too far, as one final minibreak saw Burrage and Christie seal the win 6-7(4) 6-3 11-9.
After the match, Jodie Burrage said, “It's always good to finish on a win. I think we have calculated that I've played 16 hours in the last four days, so it's been a long week, but it's been a good week for me. It's always good to play with Freya. She's carried me off the back of those long singles matches.”
Burrage’s singles campaign had come to an end earlier that day, as she lost out to eventual champion Susan Bandecchi of Switzerland in three sets. Burrage was the fourth Brit defeated by Bandecchi en-route to her first singles title since 2024, and she concluded her week with victory over the USA’s Alana Smith. After a tight first set decided by a single break of serve in the Swiss’s favour, Bandecchi went up another gear in the second set, cruising to a 7-5 6-0 win.
Bandecchi said following her win, “I'm really, really happy. I came here to play some matches, that was the goal and at the end I won the tournament, so I'm really proud of myself because I was alone here and I managed all the matches, so it feels great to have another title.”
Following the singles final, LTA Tournament Director Piers Herfet-Jones said, “It’s been another fantastic week of professional tennis at Aldershot in our fifth year hosting the event. Congratulations to Susan Bandecchi on winning the singles title and British pair Jodie Burrage and Freya Christie on their doubles victory. A huge thank you to the LTA, Tournament Supervisor Sultan Gangji and the whole tournament team for making the event another great success.”
