What is the World Team Cup?

The World Team Cup is the wheelchair tennis equivalent of the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup. The event is the ITF’s flagship wheelchair tennis team event, with players competing for their country to become world team champions across four divisions – men’s, women’s, quads and juniors.

Great Britain's men’s, women's and junior teams have already secured their places in the World Group event in Turkey in May as a result of their performances at the 2023 event in Portugal. The men's an junior team were crowned champions last year, whilst the women's side finished fourth.

However, with Great Britain coming seventh in the quad event in 2022 and missing out at last year’s qualification event in Turkey,  the Lexus GB quad team needs to progress through qualification in Latvia this year if they are to join the other three teams at the World Group in Turkey in May.

Great Britain has a long history of success at the World Team Cup, with Great Britain quad teams having won the World Team Cup quad title on five occasions, most recently in 2017 in Sardinia, Italy.

The 2023 BNP Paribas World Team Cup World Group will be held in Antalya, Turkey from 7-12 May.

Who will Great Britain play in Latvia?

Great Britain will face France and Sweden in one of two round-robin groups of three nations for the first stage of the European Qualification, with the overall winners this weekend going forward to be part of the eight-team World Group event in May.

The Brits first match will take place on Thursday 14 March.
