Wimbledon 2024: Emma Raducanu to face Ekaterina Alexandrova as singles draws are announced

• 1 MINUTE READ

The draws for The Championships, Wimbledon have been announced as 19 Brits prepare to contest in their opening-round slate, including Emma Raducanu who will meet the world No.22 Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Raducanu will return to the manicured lawns of SW19 for the first time in two years for what will be her first head-to-head with a two-time Libéma Open champion in Alexandrova.

Alexandrova, ranked 22, sits among the circuit’s most experienced on the surface, producing an impressive 38-18 win-loss record to gift her two of her three career titles.

Despite competing in less than a third of grass appearances compared to her opponent, Raducanu equals the 29-year-old’s best performance at The Championships, having both previously reached the last 16.

Meanwhile, Katie Boulter, who features among the WTA’s most successful grass-court stars this season with seven wins to her name, enters the tournament as a seeded player for the first time in her career.

The back-to-back Rothesay Open champion is scheduled to meet a player whom she yields a 100% success rate, winning two-from-two against Germany’s Tatjana Maria.

In the men’s draw, Jack Draper opens his Wimbledon tilt against Sweden’s Elias Ymer upon his first time seeded at a major tournament.

The 2024 Stuttgart champion will take confidence in his streak leading up to the main event, claiming victory over two recognised grass-court connoisseurs in his past seven wins, including two-time cinch champion Matteo Berrettini and reigning Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Should Draper win his first-round meeting with the Swede, home crowds could be in for an all-British contest provided Cam Norrie defeats Argentina’s Facundo Diaz Acosta to progress to the second round.

Andy Murray is also lined up to face Czech Tomas Machac if he wins his fitness race.

The Briton encountered the world No.38 on two separate occasions, with their most recent head-to-head coming at this year’s ATP Masters Miami where Machac just tipped the three-time Grand Slam winner to victory in a closely contested three-set battle.
