Wimbledon 2025: Oliver Bonding & Jagger Leach finish runners-up in boys’ doubles final

• 2 MINUTE READ

British star Oliver Bonding and American Jagger Leach put in an incredible performance in the boys' doubles final but eventually lost out to fourth seeds Oskari Paldanius and Alan Wazny in a tight battle on No.1 Court.

Eighth seeds Bonding and Leach had championship points in the second set, but a spirited comeback from the Finnish, Polish pair saw them prevail 5-7, 7-6(6), 10-5 in an hour and 31 minutes.

Bonding, who is supported by the LTA's Pro Transition Programme, has clocked some standout results at junior Grand Slam tournaments this year - reaching the semi-finals of the doubles in both junior Australian Open and Roland Garros this year.

The junior doubles final at the All England Club marked his first at a junior Grand Slam and will provide him with valuable experience heading into the rest of the season.

“This week's been incredibly special,” Bonding reflected in his post-match interview. “Of course, we're disappointed right now, coming so close, but just so grateful to be able to play on this beautiful court in front of so many people.

“It's just such an honour in front of family and friends - I couldn't ask for more.”

Meanwhile, Bonding’s double partner Leach - who is currently ranked junior world No.7 and is the son of three-time Grand Slam singles champion Lindsay Davenport, added, “One step closer (to lifting the Grand Slam title). It's been a dream come true getting to play on No.1 Court here at Wimbledon, and we were close today.

“Oliver and I had a great time playing together here, and hopefully we'll be back again.”

Bonding and Leach looked to apply the pressure late in the opening set, before finding the late breakthrough thanks to a costly double fault from Wazny to take a one set lead.

Both teams gave little away on serve - with the British, American pair winning 78% (43/55) points behind their first serve and Paldanius and Wazny sealing 50/65 points behind theirs across the match.

With neither pair being able to take control of the second, we headed to a tie-break which saw the eighth seeds unleash some fiery returns to stretch a 6-4 lead and bring up the first championship points.

The Finnish, Polish duo managed to hang firm, going on to string a run of four points to take us to a match deciding tie-break, where they reeled off the last five points in a row to seal the boys' doubles title.

Despite the loss, it's been a standout grass court campaign for Bonding who became the fourth British player to win the boys' singles title at the Lexus British Open Roehampton - the biggest junior grass court event outside of Wimbledon.

The 18-year-old is also the reigning 18U Lexus Junior National Championships title-winner having etched his name on the trophy in 2024 and 2025 – and has previously won the Banana Bowl, one of the most prestigious junior tournaments in the international calendar.
