US Open 2025: Jack Draper & Jessica Pegula into mixed double semi-final after knocking out Emma Raducanu & Carlos Alcaraz

• 2 MINUTE READ

Britain’s Jack Draper and American partner Jessica Pegula are through to the semi-finals of the new-look US Open mixed doubles event.

The top seeds started in devastating form – beating fellow Brit Emma Raducanu and this week’s Cincinnati Open champion Carlos Alcaraz 4-2, 4-2 in the first round.

Draper and Pegula later returned to see off Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev 4-1, 4-1 to confirm their place in the final four.

The British, American duo will move on to play third seeds Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud in the semi-finals on Wednesday 20 August at 00:00 UK time.

US Open mixed doubles semi-final draw

  • Jessica Pegula (USA) & Jack Draper (GBR) (1) vs Iga Swiatek (POL) & Casper Ruud (NOR) (3)
  • Danielle Collins (USA) & Christian Harrison (USA) vs Sara Errani (ITA) & Andrea Vavassori (ITA)

In its new revamped format, this year’s US Open mixed doubles tournament sees 16 teams competing for the title across a two-day event.

The entrants are made up of eight teams based purely on their joint singles rankings as well as eight wild cards.

Teams play up to two matches a day during the event in a best-of-three set format, with sets only up to four games.

In front of the packed-out crowd on the Arthur Ashe Stadium, it was Draper who came through the battle of the British No.1s in the opening round.

With Alcaraz coming off winning his sixth singles title of the season only the day before, the Spaniard got off to a shaky start and was broken immediately in his first service game.

This was Draper’s first match back since Wimbledon having been dealing with an injury for the last couple of months, but the Briton showed promising signs – particularly on his groundstrokes and coming into the net.

Despite glimpses of magic from former US Open champions Raducanu and Alcaraz, the top seeds broke the world No.2 once again in the second set to wrap up a statement first round win.

Two hours later in the quarter-finals, it was more of the same from Draper and Pegula as they stormed past Andreeva and Medvedev.

After losing the opening game, they won seven consecutive games before serving out the win on their third match point.

Draper and Pegula will remain one of the hot-favourites for the inaugural title – Draper a former semi-finalist in New York and current world No.5, while Pegula also made last year’s singles final and is a former doubles world No.1.
