Emma Raducanu to play alongside Carlos Alcaraz in star-studded US Open mixed doubles draw
• 2 MINUTE READ
This year’s US Open will see British No.1 Emma Raducanu join forces with world No.2 Carlos Alcaraz in a blockbuster mixed doubles line-up.
This year’s mixed doubles event will look vastly different from what we’ve seen before at the Grand Slams.
Rather than being staged in the second week of the tournament, the mixed doubles event at Flushing Meadows will be staged in the qualifying week, over Tuesday 19 August and Wednesday 20 August.
The new format has piqued the interest of the world’s biggest singles stars, who are set to feature in the event in a bid to be crowned champions and take home the $1 million prize money.
The British, Spanish duo will undoubtedly be one of the duos to watch heading into the tournament having both claimed victory in New York over the last five years.
Raducanu made history when she came through qualifying to clinch the crown in Flushing Meadows in 2021, while Alcaraz sealed his first of five major titles at the tournament the following year.
The news of their upcoming partnership at the US Open broke ahead of the Spaniard's opening round match at the HSBC Championships, with the 22-year-old expressing his excitement for the tournament in his post-match press conference in West London, "She's going to be the boss," Alcaraz laughed.
"US Open came to us and gave us the opportunity to play mixed doubles. I'm super excited about it, it's going to be great, it was an amazing idea from the tournament."
"I've known Emma since a long time ago - I have a really good relationship with her so it's going to be interesting. We are going to enjoy for sure, I'll try to put my doubles skills on and we'll try to win."
Grand Slam champions Raducanu and Alcaraz are just one of a number of must-watch partnerships set to contest the crown at the US Open. Meanwhile, British No.1 Jack Draper will compete alongside 2024 Paris Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng.
"I think it's a good format for the players to get prepared for the US Open, having a shot at playing with another top player," Draper answered when asked about his partnership with the world No.4.
"Qinwen I know from the tour - obviously a great player herself and has a really good game. I think it will be fun to get out there and player with her and see how we get on."
Other notable partnerships on the entry list include:
- Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz
- Zheng Qinwen and Jack Draper
- Emma Navarro and Jannik Sinner
- Jessica Pegula and Tommy Paul
- Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti
- Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz
- Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev
- Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe
- Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud
- Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas
- Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev
- Olga Danilovic and Novak Djokovic
- Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton
The scoring system leading up to the finals will be sets played to four games with sudden death deuce and a tie-break at 4-4. Should the scoreboard be tied to a set each, a 10-point tie-break will be played rather than a third set.
The 2025 US Open will bring this year's Grand Slam tournaments to a close and will take place between 18 August and 7 September.
