The United Cup will start with a round-robin group stage with the top two teams qualifying for the knock-out rounds. Ties are played as best of three matches, including one men’s singles, one women’s singles and one mixed doubles rubber.
Great Britain are one of 18 countries competing at the United Cup next year. Nations qualify based on the combined ranking of their top men's and women's singles player.
The Brits reached the quarter-finals earlier this season – finishing top of their group before losing out to Poland.
Harris joins the British line-up off the back of a season in which he won his first ATP Challenger singles trophy in Cassis, France. Harris also came through qualifying to reach the main draw at the US Open and won his opening round match at Wimbledon.
Xu, 18, is in impressive form after lifting her first W100 singles title in Wrexham – the biggest achievement in her young career so far. She’s a former junior Wimbledon and US Open semi-finalist and she made her debut at SW19 in July.
Xu enjoyed an impressive summer grass court season – reaching the quarter-final of the Lexus Birmingham Open and claiming her first WTA win in Nottingham.
Glasspool has had an incredible doubles season with fellow Brit Julian Cash – reaching world No.1 and winning seven titles, including his first Grand Slam at Wimbledon.
Nicholls rose to a career-high ranking at world No.23 earlier this year, after winning the title in Berlin alongside Tereza Mihalikova. The duo have also had a strong record in the WTA 1000 tournaments including a final in Indian Wells and a semi-final in Wuhan.
The draw for the United Cup will take place on Monday 17 November.
